Summer is winding down. Kids are bored to tears. Parents may be going slightly crazy. The house is a complete disaster . . . sound familiar anyone?
I may have a temporary solution for you.
Yes. Temporary.
Because until school starts we are just going to hang on for the ride and hope we don’t fall off.
My solution is in the form of another review of our favorite subscription boxes for kids from The Kiwi Crate Company. This time they gave us The Tinker Crate to try, which was a new adventure for us.
But when I took a peek inside, I knew instantly this would be the perfect, much needed, one on one time with my 9 year old daughter and her papa.
You see, they are both totally brainy and into science and engineering, and me . . . not so much.
But I think it is so sweet and cute that they share the same gene pool and interests, and they had such a blast building this optical illusion phantom projector. I totally left the scene when laws of physicals started coming up – (booooring).
Science and engineering is exactly what the focus of Tinker Crate are. And this subscription box couldn’t have come at a better time. My husband and I were just discussing the need to spend more one on one time with our kids. When you are outnumbered by children, that can surely be hard to come by, but still so important and special.
We’ve decided that one night a week, one child would get to have their “one on one”. Mom and Dad are going to take turns with each child, but they will get to choose the activity, such as going to get an ice cream, playing a board game, making a craft, sewing lessons (which my 7 year old has planned with me, because at least she shares my genes), etc.
I’m really hoping this is something that will work well and provide wonderful memories and bonding experiences with our children.
We have tried doing “dates” with our kids once a week, but I think the mentality of those were a little more elaborate and proved to be difficult to execute regularly. But a “one on one” moment lasting an hour or so sounds do-able for us.
I’d love to hear how you manage to spend special individualized time with your kids and the types of activities you like to do together.
And I definitely recommend the Tinker Crate or any age or interest appropriate Kiwi Crate subscription box for some easy to prepare and fun to make activities with your children. I 100% guarantee they will be absolutely thrilled when that box shows up on your doorstep.
And you will be completely relieved that there is an activity all thought out and planned for you. It just might free up some time and energy to get that house put back together before you loose it 😉
The joys of parenthood!

What a wonderful idea to share time with children or grandchildren! Mine are all teenagers now and that is another story! Great that you & your husband take a special time to be with your daughter. The Peach compote was delicious even if I didn’t have the fantastic convenience of the Pressure Cooker! I am looking forward to going another round with you on your great tutorials. The slow cooker was so informative. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and family pictures.
