Today’s post is what I like to call, “an extra TIDBIT”.

It means this post was not planned, not marked on the calendar, and it just kind of happened.

You see, I was knee deep working on my Home Depot Do-It-Herself workshop project door hanger (more details about that in a minute), and it resulted in me actually decorating my front porch for Fall.  Which I had thought long and hard about skipping out on, until my kids threw a monster fit.

But it all turned out kind of cute, so I thought I would snap some pictures to share with you and to remind myself later that not all decor has to be pre-planned and thoughtfully executed.

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my house is cute little pumpkin patch.  I was thrilled that this year they had more to sell than just orange pumpkins!

They must have seen my vision of stacked up heirloom pumpkins coming a mile away, because I found the perfect ones for my planters that I found on sale at Home Depot.

With the help of my 2 year old son, we filled the bottom with some bush clippings from the yard and stacked our pumpkins up on top.

The cuteness prompted a little more Fall sprucing over by the porch swing, simply by digging through my stash of Fall accents and adding some more clippings and Baby Boo pumpkins here and there.

Just look at this darling one with the vines still attached!

If you’ll look closely at the image below, you’ll get a little sneak peak at the door hanger I’m making for the Do-It-Herself virtual workshop, hosted by Home Depot.

Have you seen these fun projects floating around from time to time.  I love to walk into our local Home Depot and see what Do-It-Herself projects they have going each month.  They are usually displayed right at the front of the store, but feel free to ask the clerks if you don’t see one.

For these workshops, they like to send out a challenge to bloggers to take their own spin on each project.  I am so so honored to be able to take part in this Holiday project.  Here are the images I was given to begin with and encouraged to make my own seasonal door hanger from this original idea.

Since we will be sharing our ideas with you on October 17th, I decided to do a Halloween seasonal character door hanger.  Mostly because my kids think I’m the dullest mom ever for only doing “pretty” Fall decor, and skipping out on all things Halloween.

But I’m very pleased with how this project turned out, a little pretty and a little cutesy, and I can’t wait to show you more soon!  And I’m relieved that the trick-or-treaters will have more than “pretty” Fall decor to welcome them to our doorstop.

Though, in my opinion, they will get plenty of that too!

I’d love to leave you with some key points about the Home Depot Do-It-Herself workshop, in case you are new to this concept.

  • The Home Depot offers workshops at all of their locations for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels.
  • There are 3 types of workshops offered:  Do-it-yourself (DIY), do-it-herself (DIH) and kids.
  • Customers can learn how to build decor projects, how to make easy home repairs, and how to operate tools through demonstration and step-by-step instructions.
  • Visit http://workshops.homedepot.com to learn more.

And just a heads up, if you attend and make one of these projects, feel free to share it on social with the hashtag #DIHWorkshop so we can all see it!

Now I would love to know – are you an all-out-Halloween decor kind of person, or boring like me 😉 ?

  1. Loved how beautiful your porch is looking. We don’t do Halloween out here in New Zealand or really decorate our porches in Fall. But I had to to celebrate with my American friends.
    Thanks for your inspiring blog!

  2. More like you but none of it’s boring. It can stay from harvest through thanksgiving. No Halloween at my house. Not since I matured enough to know what it stands for. ?? No appearances of evil here. ?

  3. hey girl love the porch! So pretty! I love to decorate for Fall to (mostly pumpkins ) but not so much for Halloween! It is my Mom’s birthday on that day! ha

  4. Ahhh I hate Halloween period and all the decor with it! Definitely a hardcore Autumn/Harvest/Thanksgiving kind of decor person. Your porch looks so lovely!
