Valentine Yarn Hearts - a perfect craft for the whole family!

Do you ever get stuck fighting an inner battle, where you desperately want to create with your own two hands, in your own little world – and knowing there is a world of precious little ones who also desperately want to create with their own little two hands . . . but they need your help?

Valentine Yarn Hearts - a perfect craft for the whole family!

Fighting that battle inside of me is how these Valentine Yarn Hearts were born.

I think I won 😉

You see, my kids were aching to create . . .  I was aching to create . . . so I decided to combine the two.

This project turned out to be fun for me to make, display, and take images of, while the kids had a wonderful time creating them.

They just kept making more and more and I had fun plopping or stringing them here and there.

The supplies for this project are basic, and the process is simple.  Watch this fun little clip for a quick glance at the process, and then I’ll walk you through with some tips.

This was my husbands first video he has done for me, and a whole new world of creating for us.  We are hooked, and there is sure to be more video coming at you.  I would love to have you CLICK HERE TO subscribe to our new channel to catch all the updates.

Supplies:

  • Yarn
  • Tape
  • Cardboard

First trace and cut your heart shapes out of the cardboard.  I wish we would have given a little more depth and distinction to the heart center dip part, but any size and shape will work just fine.  Just explore your cookie cutter stash for shapes, and dream up yarn pumpkins, yarn Christmas ornaments, yarn Easter Eggs . . . oh the possibilities!

To make it easier for the kids, tape the end of the yarn onto the cardboard.

Then just start wrapping and wrapping around some more.  Keeping it tight is going to be key.

Go until all the cardboard is covered and finish with a few loops around the center of the heart.

If you want a loop to hang the heart, simply cut the yarn end and loop it into the yarn that is tightly wound around the heart.

Finish it off with a couple of knots.

You can tuck the end inside the yarn for a cleaner look.

I have to say, it felt so rewarding to make something the whole family could enjoy participating in.

Big thanks to the hubs for cutting out our cardboard hearts and making the video 😉  I think he secretly loves to get roped into my projects.

Be sure to PIN this project for later!
