Today is a very exciting day on TIDBITS, and I have some great news to share with you!!

First of all, thank you so much for clicking here to find out what is going on.  Everything happening here was inspired by the needs and desires of my readers and I certainly hope this new TIDBITS is going to be a more helpful resource for you.

To help you understand what you can expect from TIDBITS from now on, let’s explore each aspect from the good ol’ 5 Key Questions you should always ask . . .

HOW – WHAT – WHEN – WHERE and WHY

Let’s start with the WHAT.

WHAT.

So what exactly happened to TIDBITS?

Several big things actually.

If you are a frequent visitor, you may have already noticed the visual changes with my web design.  That’s right, TIDBITS Brand and website got a before and after makeover!  I love the new look, and I hope you do to!  I worked hard with my designers to create a site that was more in line with the aesthetics you find in my home and projects.

What do you think?  Do you like it?

As intensive as getting a blog makeover was, that’s not even the biggest thing that happened.

Nope.  It gets even better.

I’ve been sharing inspiration for do-it-yourself living on TIDBITS all by myself for 7 years.  But as you may know, this last year my sister Marci has been popping in with recipe posts now and again.  But that’s really all it was.  She had a good recipe, I would take the photos and she would help me write up a post to share.

But now – now she has a place on TIDBITS to call her own!  I know so many of you love her recipes and witty writing, so the whole purpose of this redesign was to give her a dedicated place to share and a place where you can easily find the content you may be looking for!

Marci and I always joke that together we would have made the perfect housewife.  My love of homemaking and design mixed with her ninja skills in the kitchen, would have made for one super hero kind of woman.  But as women well know, we can never do it all if we intend to do it well.  Which is why we are so excited to divide and conquer and provide you with loads of inspiration for do-it-yourself living AND tasty living.

Please take a minute to click over on the food tab in my header and explore Marci’s side of things.  You’ll find all the food posts she has shared previously, different menu items, images and index’s.  She is just getting started, but I’m completely confident she has so many good things to come!  You won’t want to miss a beat!

(P.S.  If you are on mobile, get the most out of the new look by hopping onto a desktop computer.  It’s my favorite look!)

One thing that may be helpful for you to note, is that Marci’s site is actually on a completely new domain, www.tidbits-marci.com.  Though our sites may look very similar (by design) you are actually on a whole new website when you click back and forth.  I’ll dive in a bit more on how that may play out for you in just a bit.

WHY.

I’m not certain if this change seems like a big deal to you, my reader, but I assure you the decision to make this move was not taken lightly.

There were many reasons why we did it, but knowing if it was the right move came after much deliberation, prayer, discussions, and even some good ol’ sisterly drama – if I am being honest.

The whole tale would be better shared over a cup of Crio Bru and a few hours to chat, but I’ll sum it up to the best of my ability.

Me and marci

I decided to expand and share my Brand because:

  1. You asked for it!  The interest in Marci’s recipes and stories was very clear and we can’t wait to provide you with more yummy stuff!
  2. Logistically.  It was getting very hard for me to try to manage 2 different niches under my one site.  I knew logistically, there needed to be a separation for you wonderful readers to find the posts that are most interesting to you.
  3. Freedom.  As different as Marci and I are, we both have intense passion for the things we love, and we are both incredibly impatient.  She needed more freedom from me to be able to share and move at her own pace, and I needed more focus on my niche to continue to grow in my field and share what I enjoy sharing.
  4. Simplicity.  The tracking of income was near impossible to gauge and never certain when she was just “contributing” a post here and there.  It was complicating things way too much for me.  And go ahead and nod your head with me when I say family and money can get complicated real fast.

Having said all that, I feel I now need to explain WHY we stayed together, rather than Marci starting her own Brand and blog.

I assume you’ve heard the phrase “A rising tide lifts all boats.”  We felt a true, deep desire to stay together in this journey.  While we will both be working independently in our niches, by working under the same Brand of TIDBITS, we hope to continue to support and cheer each other on.  As I grow, she will grow.  As she takes over the food world (because I know she will), she will help me grow.  We are in this together and will be each others strongest support.

In making this decision together, there were many forces trying to pull us apart.  It was hard.  We were trying to make this decision while wrapping up our manuscript for our soon to be published book, “Master the Electric Pressure Cooker”  and our stress levels were high.  (This post contains affiliate links).

Tears were shed.  Hard things came out.  But in the end, we feel total peace about this direction and we feel God’s blessing and tender mercies guiding us along.

We are overwhelmed at the tasks ahead, scared of the unknown and risks, but completely confident that together we can do this!

WHEN.

WHEN is a question of timing.  And this is when Marci and I request your patience and understanding as we move forward in time.

To some, a blog is just a blog.  To me, my blog is my career.  A career that allows me to stay home with my babies.  As wonderful as it is, a blog is A LOT OF WORK!  It’s an ever-changing industry, and a challenge to work-from-home.  But through years of working for free, and learning and applying as much as I could, it’s beginning to pay off . . . because dedication always does.

Poor Marci.  She is now faced with the challenge of jumping into an established blog and having to look professional from the get-go.  She is the best darn Nurse Practitioner around, but now she gets to learn a whole new career, and she doesn’t have time on her side to do it.

We both knew she would have to learn photography, because I couldn’t be at her house every time she whipped up a masterpiece, even thought the taste testing was pretty great when I could!  Then she needs to learn videography because this world now tells us that you’ll get left behind if you don’t!

Unless you are a blogger, you also can’t comprehend all the technical mumbo jumbo we have to learn to stay in this business, and the networking, and working with sponsors, and sharing our content, managing small business affairs, keeping up with changes, and addressing problems.  It’s really a full time job, that we have to do between raising our kids.

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not complaining.  I’m simply asking for your patience and understanding for Marci as she learns all she needs to.  She is doing a fantastic job so far, and she is a quick learner.  I’ll be there to help her as much as I can, and I hope we are all encouraging and excited to watch her get better and better.

I will still be sharing the same content you are accustomed to seeing from me.  While Marci may not have all the logistics down right away, I’m certain her recipes and writing will not disappoint.

WHO.

I need to wrap things up by giving a huge shout out to Kory and Krista from Coded Creative, our web designers.  They took on this pretty complicated custom design work like it was nothing and wowed us with their skills.  If you are looking for digital or web design work, I highly HIGHLY recommend these gals.

Again, thank you for taking the time to read this today.  Marci and I would love to hear what you think, what you hope to see from us from here on out, and how we can best serve you.  We couldn’t do any of this without your support!

Thank you!

  1. Yay for y’all! How exciting – I know it will be amazing. Glad it has worked out for you and Marci to do this together (yet separately!). It’s sure going to be nice for us to be able to access both creative sisters on the same site. Best wishes to both of you. Marci, you’ve got this. Y’all are both amazing!

  2. Yeah! What a blessing this is and I really love that you combined Marci’s part with your brand and I think it will be really great! The two (DIY home and food) go hand in hand and food is most certainly a part of a home, so it fits perfectly. I look forward to what both of you will do and I think Marci is going to be a great extension of what Tidbits already is.

I know it will be a bit of a learning curve for Marci, but I have faith in her and like you said, she has you, so I know she will hit this head on and do wonderfully!

Congratulations on this new step for the blog and I am excited for the both of you! Blessings on the adventures ahead and I wish nothing but the best and I feel confidant that this new direction will just be another added plus for the blog…and that is a good thing, a very good thing! 🙂

  8. They always say two is better than one. I think it will be productive and fun. Here.s to good recipes and all the rest.

    1. I think you are right! If anything, we will have more moral support for each other, right?! Glad to hear you are looking forward to more content!

    1. Thanks so much Jamie! We are so thrilled (and a little nervous)! I appreciate your confidence!

  9. Wow – so many exciting changes for Tidbits! I’m super happy for you both! I have loved all of the content here … and now there will be even more to enjoy! The design is very clean and pretty – I’m having a few issues with seeing some of the information because of the size of the font and the lighter colors, and others who have visual impairments like myself might too.

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet message Heather! We are excited to be able to share more and work together! I’ll look into the font weights and colors and see if I can adapt them. I appreciate your heads up! Take care!
