Doesn’t progress feel so good?

Like when your child progress’s from Kindergarten to first grade, and you no longer have to pick up and drop off 2 extra times a day.

Or when you progress from a milk chocolate lover to a dark chocolate lover, and you can now eat more chocolate because they say dark chocolate is good for you.

Nothing quite like moving up in the world.

This week I came to the realization that we have progressed from sleeping on a mattress on the floor, to a mattress on a frame – to a mattress with the most stunning headboard this side of Utah has ever seen . . . in my not-so-humble opinion.

Brace yourself – because my husband knocked this one out of the park.

I know, right?

Now, obviously I have some work to do on the bedding (duvet cover, pillow shams, decorative pillows, bed skirt), but lets just talk about that Europian inspired headboard my Mr. TIDBITS whipped up – like he was magic.

So first we had the sit down.  “Okay dear – what kind of headboard do you want”, he said with much enthusiasm. (wink).  I proceeded, “Well, I want it to look kind of like a French mantel so I can decorate the top, and I really like pretty scrolly wood thingy’s, and it has to have a touch of old wood on it from your wood junk pile, and I love planked wood so it would be great if you could throw that in there . . . and here is 15-20 images on pinterest that I really like.”

He pulled out a scrap of paper and sketched up this image that was better than anything I could ever image.

And I gave him a great big kiss and told him it was perfect.  Minions and all.

He planned with a foot board, which we may still add down the road.  For now, we decided to see what the room would look like without, since we are trying to not make the space feel too cluttered.

Now if his drawing wasn’t brilliant enough, he spent about 5 hours total in his make-shift wood shop and completely out-did himself.

When he brought it in the house, I about died.  And cried.

There was the old rustic wood as the mantel piece.

And scrolly wood thingy’s he found on Amazon HERE and HERE.

And planks.

And no, you can’t have him.

This bed is truly from my dreams (and I’m trying to convince him to make plans for you or extra headboards and sell them, so give me a shout out if you want to help convince him).

Meanwhile, I did find time to spruce up some basic white pillowcases with some lace – which you will find the tutorial over HERE at Ella Claire blog, where I contribute once in awhile.

With a bed this stunning, a simple white pillowcase would not do.

I’m loving this chunky throw blanket from Carmel Decor.

And I’ve got piles of bleached drop cloth and shades of linen all pre-washed and ready to be sewn into bedding.  (Next weeks projects).

If you are curious about the paint job on the bed, I knew this was the prime opportunity to try out the infamous Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint, as I was really hoping to achieve an old world feel to the paint finish.

Mantel Headboard

Boy, did this stuff deliver!  I selected the color “marzipan” in her new European color line.

It was a tad darker than I expected it to be going on, but once I applied her white wax it brought out the creamy tone I was hoping for.  I also debated sanding and scuffing the headboard up a bit, but found I really liked it just as it was.  So I left well enough alone.

So now, we will move onward and upward as we set forth on our totally unrealistic goal to have this room done in a months time.

But if you could spare a moment . . . what color do you think I should paint the walls?  The gray really clashes with the bed to me, and it needs a fresh coat any way.  I’m leaning towards a creamier white for the board and batten section, rather than such a bright white like it is.  Then maybe just a few tones darker of the creamy white for above.  Or should I go blue?  Or blue-gray?  Or brown-gray?  Or am I missing an option completely?

Do share!

And as always – thanks for reading!

  1. Love your headboard, did Mr. Tidbits make any of the headboard to sell all he would have to do is make headboard and footboard, I will paint it and my own scroll to it. Please I have a queen bed, I live in TX plkmrose@ yahoo.com

  2. Hi. I love this fireplace surround so much I’m trying to mimic the headboard as best as I can. I actually have an old fireplace surround and have closed off the area between the surround. Now I want to apply shiplap but it’s a 100 year old fireplace and eventually I put up plywood there are high and low place. Can Mr. Tidbits give a suggestion to get the shiplap up vertically and keep it straight in depth and left to right?
Again this is a beautiful piece of work. How do you guys like sleeping with just the headboard on the wall? Thanks,
    Sydney

  3. Cami,
Has your husband made up plans and/or headboards to sell? I am looking for a king-size one and love what he did for you.

  4. This is such a gorgeous headboard! I would go for an ‘opposite’ color, especially with your highlights of blue in the room, and the warm tones in the headboard, and for the upper walls, an extremely pale antique pink, to where it is barely tinted. Very pale pinks and blues look so stunning used against each other with predominately white rooms, and give a gorgeous antique feel.

  5. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! Is that wainscoting on the wall? If so, I might paint it. Maybe the color of the throw blanket. Then the white headboard would pop out against the blue/grey. Then I would paint the walls off white? But, then again, anything you choose will be perfect!

  6. Visiting from Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint blog, and I just had to take a moment to say that this headboard is absolutely gorgeous. Kudos to your husband! I also read your post about the bed linens you sewed up. The combined skills and talents that you and your husband have resulted in a dreamy outcome. Congratulations on a wonderful room makeover!

    1. Awe – thank you! What a sweet comment to make my day. He is so good to go with my style and dreams and I am lucky to have him as my partner in crime 😉 Thanks for coming by!

  7. Your husband IS A GENIUS!!! Wow, that is an amazing headboard. I totally love. And the paint you picked out is perfect!

  8. An entertaining post, stunning pictures, and talented husband. So glad you linked up to The Creative Circle. Can’t wait to read more!

  9. Oh my goodness, that headboard is STUNNING!!! Your husband did a fantastic job. It’s quite possibly the prettiest headboard I’ve ever seen!

  10. Yes, Yes, Yes! The hubs should DEFINITELY share plans for making this beautiful headboard! He’s a genius – truly talented in design and construction! I particularly like the beadboard below the scrolled part! and the posters are to die for! You are a seriously LUCKY WOMAN!

  11. Beautiful…..I vote for the blue or the grey/brown for the walls…..but I love both of those colors…=]

  12. GOR-GEOUS!! Mr. Tid-bits is great!! I had a giggle over his drawing, with the minions. I’d lean toward a pale blue for the wall, and something close to the bleached drop-cloths for the board and batten. (I’m gonna show this to my hubby so maybe he’ll make me something like this!!) Thanks for the info, your room is lovely already:)

  13. Beautiful! I think a mint green would look good on the walls. Maybe you could use an app to try different colors before committing.

  14. Oh! Just gorgeous! Ya’ll seriously outdid yourselves – Mr.Tidbits on the headboard (heck yeah, ya’ll could and should sell plans or made ones) and you on the paint job! I love the contrast of taupe and white myself. I think it would really make the headboard stand out. But a soft blue/aqua would be very spa-ish too. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  15. Cami, the headboard is beautiful. He did an excellent job. The wood embellishment looks very similiar to one that I ordered and used from architecturaldepot.com for my DIY bookcase. They had an extensive product line.

  16. Your hubby hit it out of t he park! He has mad drawing skills to take what was in your head and put it on paper and bring it to life! I would love if he would share plans. Love the addition of the of the old wood piece on top.
I like the idea of the creamier white on the board and batten and a blue gray above would make the room so dreamy. A calm relaxing space.

  17. That is the most beautiful headboard I’ve ever seen! He MUST sell the plans! The pillowcases are very sweet, also. I just recently redid all my bedding and found some beautiful pieces at Tuesday Morning, if you have one around where you live. The prices are affordable, too. Give it a try!

  18. Mr. Tidbits has some serious skills! That is one gorgeous headboard!! Love the moldings with the old wood as the top and I must say Mrs. Tidbits you have quite the skills yourself is your choice of paint! Looks fantastic! Great job!

  20. Well done, hubby did a sensational job. I think the walls would look great cream or light blue. Whatever colour you choose will look stunning x
