Fall Pillows, Fall Printables, Fall Porches

Whenever I get that Fall time itch . . . I just have to scratch it.

It came on super early this year for me.  But that’s okay, because I am a blogger and decorating before the actual season is what they tend to do.

Apparently 😉

Today I am excited to share some fall pillows (which I’ll show you how to make), and the printables for them
(so you can whip them up quick) and inspiration for a fall time front porch (just in case you are looking to be inspired) – and that’s not even all!

Be sure to get to the bottom of this post where I’ve got a huge-o-mongous line up of incredibly talented bloggers who are sharing their Fall printables for you as well.

Better warm up that printer!

I wanted some very simple Fall pillows for my front porch decor.  The image in my head was no where to be seen in stores – so naturally – I decided I could make them.

Just a pumpkin.  Just a leaf.  Nothing too complicated.

I drew/traced some images I found online, and then watercolor painted the lines.

Then I simply copied my painted image on a toner based printer (found in libraries, copy shops, schools, my basement, etc.) and used my favorite ink transfer method to get the image onto fabric.  Sounds complicated – but I’ll show you how easy it is in a minute.

I think the favorite pillow of mine is the pumpkin without color, but I did enjoy adding watercolor to liven them up a bit.  (I’ll talk more about that too).

I was super thrilled to be able to find some items in my thrifted stash to use up.  I try to only buy things if I have a specific purpose for them, but often something in the thrift store grabs my attention and is such a good deal I can’t pass it up.  Some of these items have been waiting for quite some time for their debut.

The large basket/make-shift coffee table was a major score for $10.00.  A bit scuffed, but I love it all the better.

Found the mini wagon years ago, and tossed in some roadside wheat.  The cheese cloche has also been dying to find some purpose.  Those apples won’t last long though with all the little hands around here.

The small rocker my husbands uncle made us, and the rug was bought at Home Depot on clearance.  The wicker tray was a score at an antique store for $10.00.  The plaid blanket is actually still just a fabric cut from Joann’s.  But it will be an actual blanket soon!

To make the pillows, first print off one or more of these images below by clicking the link under the image.  (They are designed to be printed on standard US 8.5×11 paper.)

This ink transfer method will only work if using a toner, not an ink-jet printer.  I’ve written about this process in greater detail, HERE, but I’ll show you a quick run down.

You will need the following:

  • CitraSolv
    • It is my favorite cleaner to clean my house, and I’ve bought many bottles HERE on Amazon.  It is a bonus that it also creates lovely image transfers on fabric, for a somewhat time-worn look.
  • Fabric and pillow form
    • I love using up my bleached drop cloth, which I talked about HERE.
    • I’ve got a detailed post on how to make a envelope pillow cover HERE, for any size of pillow form.
  • Sponge brush
  • Something to cover your work surface
    • I use garbage bags.
  • Tape
  • Spoon
  • Watercolor and brushes if you intend to color the image.  I’ve got a detailed post for how to watercolor on fabric, HERE.

I like to cut around my image so I can line it up on my fabric better.  Then lay the printed image face down on the fabric and tape on the edges to keep it in place.  Dip the brush in some citrasolv cleaner and brush it over the image and the design will show where it is saturated.

Use a spoon to burn the image on.  To do this rub firmly and slowly wherever you want the ink to soak into the fabric.  Be careful not to shift the image while doing this.

Lift the paper image off the fabric to reveal the transfer.

Follow these directions if you want to give the watercolor a try.

Just as a side note – you can also print these images and I’m sure a wee little one will have a great time painting/coloring them as well.
