I absolutely LOOOOVE when bloggers share their most popular posts of the year.

For 2 reasons.

  1.  As a blogger myself, it’s really good to get an idea of what is working well in the blog-o-sphere.  It allows for a good self evaluation and to generate new ideas for my own blog.
  2. As a reader of blogs, it is fun to see where my favorite bloggers have succeeded and what they have accomplished throughout the year.

So for the first time ever (in my 4 years of blogging), I’m sharing my own round-up of popular posts for 2015.

Top 10 Posts of 2015 on the blog TIDBITS

I ran my numbers on Google Analytics for the year, and I have to tell you – I wasn’t at all surprised by the top posts.

However – I was a bit disappointed.

You’ll see in a minute – but the posts that generated the most traffic for me this year, were most certainly not my favorite ones to write.  They weren’t even the posts I worked the hardest on – in fact – the top ones were actually the easiest posts to write.  IN FACT! – the top 2 don’t even have anything to do with DIY!!

Talk about annoying.

I just have to shrug my shoulders and be grateful I was able to bring in a steady stream of income with some of these dependable posts.

However – because this annoys me so – I’ve decided today I will share “My Most Popular Top 10 TIDBITS of 2015”, and then share another round-up later this week of “My Favorite Top 10 TIDBITS of 2015“.  I think it should be fun to compare the two.

Alright – so lets see what drove the most people to TIDBITS this year, starting at the top.

  1.  The Top 10 Christmas Movies to Watch on Netflix

The Top 10 Christmas Movies to Watch on Netflix

This post blew me away, and brought in some great traffic through the holiday months and for the 4th quarter of Ad season.  SWEET!!  It hit the highest pageviews of the year for me, even though it has only been out for 2 months.  I put it out at the beginning of November and was surprised it wasn’t picking up the popularity my other Netflix posts had at first.  I thought it was going to be a flop.  However, it gained momentum towards the end of November and blew up my stats.  Go figure.

2.  The Top 10 Clean Feel Good TV Shows to watch on Netflix

The top 10 clean, feel good TV shows to watch on NETFLIX.

This post was the first of my Netflix posts.  I wrote it on a whim.  I wrote it thinking no one would care for it, because it wasn’t DIY – which is what I typically do.  My husband didn’t think I should write it.  But Holy Moly.  People went crazy over this post!  Sharing it all over the place, and giving me the blog breakthrough I was hoping for this year.  I guess people love Netflix!!

3.  The Lazy Quilters Quilt

Lazy Quilters Quilt, Sewing, Crib Quilt

Finally, a DIY post!  What is funny about this project, is that I wasn’t even going to bother to blog about it.  I was kind of making up my quilting methods and hadn’t ever actually made a quilt from start to finish before this one.  But I learned from the success of this post, always get pictures of my process so I can do a tutorial.  Even if the lighting isn’t perfect and I’m not even sure if I will blog about it.  It may end up being one of the best.

4.  The Top 10 TV Shows for kids that teach good things on Netflix

The Top 10 TV Shows for Kids That Teach Good Things on Netflix

Aaaaaaand, we are back to the Netflix.  I actually quickly wrote this post the day after my post on clean shows to watch.  I saw how people were going crazy over it and decided to capsize on that traffic by directing them to another post in similarity.  It worked.  And still works.  Bloggers – find your most popular posts and see where you can add links to other posts of yours!

5.  Re-Purposed Sweater Pillows

I am really glad this one is in the top 5.  I enjoyed making this project and think it is a great way to make some nice pillows on the cheap.  This post is still going strong a year later for me, and hits it’s peak during the cold months.

6.  20 Ways to Sew a Pillowcase

20 Ways to Sew a Pillowcase

I am not a huge fan of reading or writing round-up posts, but I can’t deny they do well on Pinterest.  This topic was born of my own curiosity of how many ways I could make a pillowcase.

7.  Homemade Yogurt

The easiest and yummiest way to make homemade yogurt - with the modern day pressure cooker.

I was thrilled so many liked this post on homemade yogurt.  I don’t do a lot of food posts, but I was pretty excited to share the benefits of homemade yogurt.  Also relieved to drive so much interest to the “Instant Pot” through this post, because it was in collaboration with the company who makes it.  It is always a good feeling to bring sales to the companies who trust me to promote their products.  But more importantly – it’s a good feeling to match my readers with a product that will improve their lives.  I aim high to do both of those things when I am trying to sell a product.

7.  DIY Feather Finish Countertops – and how they failed us.

DIY Feather finish concrete countertops - and how they failed us.

I guess people don’t mind to hear about our failures.  Glad we could tell you what NOT to do!

8.  Painted Watercolor Pillows

Okay folks.

I’ll agree with you on this one.  This project rocked and was a blast!

9.  From Rope to Rug

How to turn rope into a beautiful rug | a DIY tutorial by TIDBITS

Glad this one was a success as well.  It is still a favorite rug to use on our porch, and it will be published in a British magazine this year.  Yay!  My kids are certain Princess Kate will see it.

10.  Master Bedroom Design Inspiration

Master Bedroom Design Inspiration

Even though I wished my bedroom reveal was this popular, I’m glad others enjoyed my inspiration round-up.  Like I said, they do well on pinterest time and time again.

Okay friends – I’d love to hear if any of these posts were your favorite as well!  Or perhaps, there is a post I did that you think should be on the top 10, and it isn’t.  And really, if you have a minute – I would value any thoughts you could give me on the types of posts you would like to see on TIDBITS 2016.

I’ve learned a lot looking at this list.  I’ve learned sometimes it is beneficial to write about something even though you don’t feel it fits perfectly with your niche.  (Netflix, cough cough.)  I’ve learned that lists do well, if they add value to the life of your readers.  (Netflix, cough cough.)  I’ve learned that sewing isn’t out of style quite yet (Yay)!  I’ve also learned that I should blog about my passions no matter what.

See you soon, to talk about my favorite posts of the year!

  1. Didn’t know you wrote this great post way back in 2015. Been looking for ideas on Netflix topics and boom, I saw your post on Pinterest. You’re a great blogger. Thumbs up

  2. I really expected to see the drop-cloth bedskirt tutorial in the top 10. It is one of my favorites. I am getting ready to make one for my daughter’s bed. We just purchased a new antique headboard for her bed. I have also purchased a wooden antique bed for my bedroom since seeing this post. Your bedroom is so beautiful. It really inspired me to make changes to ours. I am also toying around with the idea of blogging but I don’t know the first thing about it. I am looking forward to reading some more of your posts on it. Thank you and Happy New Year!

  3. Well wasn’t that fun! It was and now I have some new feel-good shows to watch on Netflix. Your DIY posts were among my favorites. I pinned some of them before I even realized, duh, I should find out more about this person who is consistently blogging about things I love!
