Growing up, I was always that daughter that would drive my mom nuts by moving my bedroom furniture around, swapping blankets and pillows, and organizing my closet by color coded hangers.

Now, I know what you are thinking, mom. Ā I left out the part where I could make my bedroom look like a tornado had come through šŸ˜‰

But we are not talking about tornadoes today. Ā We are talking about the insatiable urge to move around living room furniture, swap out blankets and pillows, and color code the decorations. Ā I can’t help myself, but with every coming season, I just have to play with the living room.

But it’s all in good timing because I’m opening up my Fall living room with some of my dearest of dearest blog friends, for this years “Fall Into Home” Tour, hosted by Rachel from Maison De Pax. Ā Truly, these are some of the friends I’ve actually met (thanks to Haven Conference), the friends I ask blogging questions too, friends that encourage and inspire each other along this challenging and exciting blogging adventure, friends with impeccable style, and friends that get together during the Fall season and open up our homes with each other.

Because that is what friends do šŸ˜‰

But before you click around, let me show you how our living room has come together for the best of seasons.

I am going to cut right to the chase with this A-MAZ-ING French provincial chair.

Fall is full of cottage charm in this light and bright, yet cozy living room by TIDBITS.

She was the staring point for myĀ color choices this year, and like every great chair, it comes with a great story.

My mother inherited this chair from my grandmothers house, after she passed away. Ā After seeing it sit lonely and unloved in my mothers piano room, I finally convinced her to let me have a chance at her.

You see, my sweet grandmother Ellen, had a particular love for all things French Provincial. Ā I think that is something she passed down to meĀ šŸ˜‰

My grandma owned several lovely curved legged sofa tables, and a fancy floral tufted French sofa lined with vinyl, so the grand-babies wouldn’t ruin it.

And she had this chair.

It was perfectly 80’s with its greenish, yellowish, brownish tones – and perfectly French with it’s delicate curves and tufting.

And every once in awhile, I would sneak a sit on that fancy chair and feel like the Queen of England herself.

When my sweet mama agreed to let me “borrow” this chair, I’ll have to admit to having full intentions to sew a neutral slipcover over her, to not only protect it but shield my eyes from the one color I thought I knew I could never enjoy.

That was until my husband plopped it down in my living room, nestled right next to the fireplace. Ā And I had the strange realization that perhaps my visionĀ to create the perfect “white Autumn” . . . was perhaps wrong.

And perhaps that falling leaf colored chair, could serve a purpose after all.

And so I discovered, not only is this chair truly meant for royalty . . .

but the colors of Autumn were always meant for my living room.

So I switched my mindset and began sprinkling in bits of bold oranges, reds, and yellows, balanced with the perfect amount of whites and blues – which will always be my go-to colors.

With the addition of “the Autumn chair”, I decided to move around my “nap time” Joss and Main Sofa as well.

We moved it so it frames inĀ a cozy seating area facing towards the fireplace. Ā  Then I moved the table my husband built from scrap wood, to the the back of the sofa.

I topped the table off with a vintage bucket and a yellow chippy paint shovel my Aunt saved for me.

I was going to fill it with leaves but then decided the empty bucket was beautiful enough. #lessisbest

I bought the plaid throw blanket on the couch from Amazon, which is made of delicious, cuddle inducing, minky fabric. Ā (Amazon has lots of color choices in this blanket. Ā By the way, my links are affiliate links. Ā Thank you for using them!)

On my tufted bench I staged a wire basket full of interesting weeds from my backyard, and a beautiful aqua scarf I bought at the Atlanta, Georgia airport.

My X-legged side table holds some Fall time goodies.

My butcher block table at the back of the room is kept minimally clean, because I tend to need it for all my projects.

I pulled in my thrifted and painted foot rest from my porch to use as a couch side table.

And topped it with an inspiring book called “One Bright Shining Hope”Ā by Gordon B. Hinckley, and a chicken egg basket full of apples fresh from the tree.

Over in the corner, I’ve filled my basket with white washed pumpkins, which I crafted last year.

And I put the white slip covers on the IKEA Ektorp chair and ottoman, along with a pillow I made from a burnt orange fabric I bought at Joann’s.

You really have to feel this pillow to appreciate it, but Joann’s carries this high end, incredibly thick and soft fleece fabric in solid colors. Ā I’ve been drawn to it for months, and finally broke down and bought some in this orange color.

It goes well with this other throw I bought on Amazon which came in a two pack (the blanket on the French chair and the blanket on the white slipcovered chair) for only $20.99.

Over on the fireplace, I set a wire basket from Hobby Lobby at close reach to the chair, and filled it with some inspiring Autumn magazines, and my handcrafted Chippy Paint Pumpkin, which you can get my tutorial for over at Craftberry Bush, where I contribute.

I needed a pumpkin that felt right at home with all my chippy paint furniture.

I think you’ll be as surprised as I was at the method I used to make it chip. Ā I was hoping it would work, and the chippy results are perfect.

On the other side of the fireplace, I leave a tray to fill with apple pie and other fresh baked goodies when needed.

I’m sure you’ve noticed the hanging plates on the fireplace. Ā I’ve been collecting ivory colored dishes whenever I visit a thrift store and had fun displaying them on the mantel.

Just don’t ask my husband if he had fun hanging them šŸ˜‰

I also mixed and matched some thrifted vases on the mantel and filled them with clippings from the side of the road (of which I risked my life getting).

Finally, lets take a peek at the far side of the room, where I moved my French sofa.

I had lots of good fun layering this spot with antique, thrifted, and homemade items.

You may have noticed how I took this beautiful, ivory and texturized cotton woven rug from Rug Expedition, and turned it at an angle and layered it barely on top of my area rug.

I love the movement and interest it gives to the room, and I think getting smaller rugs and layering them are probably more affordable than purchasing an extremely large area rug for bigger rooms. Ā Plus it is just something fun and different. Ā I was provided this rug from Rug ExpeditionĀ to review, and I am very smittenĀ with the quality and appearance of the rug itself.

It sets the perfect base for my $6.00 stool I scored at the thrift store – cover and all!

And it goes great with my shabby chic chippy pumpkin.

After pulling this space together, I felt it needed a little plaid fabric as well.

I made the blanket from fabric at Joann’s and the ruffle pillow you can get a tutorial for HERE.

On my chippy paint door, I hung a marble covered clip board and a handful of wheat clippings.

On my WayfairĀ side table I placed a basket full of dried lavender, wheat, and fresh white roses.

It makes for a lovely and very simple Autumn arrangement.

  1. The living room looks so beautiful, and classy. Thank you for sharing it with your blog followers. šŸ™‚

  2. hey girl love the living room! So pretty! My Grandmothers middle name was Ellen and my parents named my sister Marcie Ellen after her!

  3. Thank you Cecilia! I usually choose more subtle color, but this really has been enjoyable. I saw JoAnns gorgeous throws too – they are so soft. I bought one for a dear friend for her birthday, and then asked to borrow it for the pictures on our deck. A bit tacky of me, but it is a gorgeous throw. Joanns has a great selection of plaids this year too! I couldn’t resist some. Enjoy decorating! Hugs!

  4. Ummm… Amazing! I never would have thought to pair the mustard yellow and bright oranges with the soft aquas and light blues, but it is absolutely spectacular, Cami! I shouldn’t have expected anything less, of course. šŸ˜‰ So glad you have you join us this week!! xx

  5. cami, this is absolutely gorgeous! What a brilliant move to bring in that chair! I love it so much. I also inherited a piece from my great aunts, a chair, and I kept it the red velvet for years until I could afford to get it recovered. But this is gorgeous and I love that sofa so much. Have a great day!

    1. Thank you Summer! I love furniture with a meaning. It makes it that much more special. I am going to attempt a slipcover for it, because I don’t think I can handle that color for any time of the year but Fall ;). But I hope to enjoy it for many many more years.

  6. I love that your grandmother’s chair has made your fall decor fall into place! And I love the pops of fall color you’ve added to the room. Beautiful! Your kids are cute too šŸ˜‰
    Mary

    1. Thank you! I really thought I could never work with that color, but it’s good to surprise ourselves once in awhile šŸ˜‰ Thanks so much for your kind words.
