As fun as it is being a mom at Christmas time, there is always that light in my children’s eyes that makes me ache to be young and care free again.  For them, the magic of Christmas is live and well.

I set out to capture that light in their eyes, as part of a yearly Christmas Nights Tour hosted by one of my favorite peeps, Rachel from Maison De Pax.  If you just clicked over from Designthusiasm, I welcome you!  Lory has a beautiful eye for style and I love her French touches.

Now I hope you’ll just sit back and relax for a minute this Christmas season, and share with me this magical evening I spent with my family.  We had finally came to a night in December with no obligations or activities, and I enjoyed setting the scene for a magical evening in our home surrounded by the contrast between darkness and light.

Then, with my trusty camera in hand, I went about trying to capture the wonder and beauty that my children could see in our home this time of year, and I was amazed by their natural tendency to go towards the light.

It was a true delight for all of us.

Just before the sun had set, I turned on all the Christmas lights in the home.

Then, ever so carefully, I lit some candles here and there and waited until the kids migrated towards them.

The world completely dark now, I just enjoyed capturing what I saw.  They are pretty used to ignoring me and my camera by now.

I promised these two wee ones that I wouldn’t touch their tree at all, and they could do whatever decorations they wanted on it.

They are best little buds.

While we were all in the living room, I lit more candles and watched.  Of course, candles with 4 kids is a rare occurrence so they found it quite fascinating.

My oldest was soaking up the warmth from the tea candles in my vintage muffin tin.

Then we had some fun as they flocked around the Christmas tree.

My 5 year old begged and pleaded to hold a candle.  With daddy by her side, we let her do this and watched as she made her Christmas wishes and blew the candle out.

It truly is a magical time of year.

Now I leave you all until 2017, while I hope we can all get some much needed family time, and rest and relaxation.

I am grateful beyond words that you were here with me today.  I am grateful for your support and encouragement.  And most of all, I am grateful for our Savior, Jesus Christ, who’s birth we celebrate this season.  It is His light that I hope to share and glorify.  My hope is that we can all strive to share His light to the world, and lift others around us.

Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. Wow awesome lovely pictures of Christmas.

I really like the effect of bokeh in these pictures.

    It’s totally incredible post.

  2. Beautiful photos of your children and the wonder of Christmas at night! So very, very sweet! I’m with you – I wish I could capture that childlike feeling again. With grown children, I’m now waiting for grandchildren (grin) to continue the magic. Have a wonderful, blessed Christmas, Cami!

  3. Great photos, Cami! I especially love the shot, I think of your oldest, with her eyes closed over the muffin tin candles. Priceless!
