A season as naturally beautiful as Autumn deserves to be inside and outside.  See how I’ve used Fall leaves and branches in my decor, to bring in the rich vibrant colors without spending a dime.

Today I’d like you to meet “Extreme Cami” who overdoes it on occasion.

Why Hello.

I don’t show up here on TIDBITS very often, as “normal, simplify-my-life Cami” is usually center stage.

But every once in awhile, I go waaaaaay over-board and let the thoughts creep into my head that “more is more” and “more is better”.  Complete opposite of the me that likes to shout from the rooftops that “less is more” and “less is best”.

And when this happens, I do things like . . . .

. . . go for a Sunday drive for a “few clippings” and find myself sending my husband back up the canyon to cut enough Fall branches to make a “Fall Tree” in the corner.

Then not even that is enough, so I clip and stuff and stuff and clip until our living room looks like an entire Fall forest.

After all was said and done, I psycho-analyzed myself and tried to determine what tends to coax “Extreme Cami” out of her nest every once in awhile, which leads to crazy ideas like decorating and photographing my living room for the second time in one season, and bringing far too many leaves and crawly critters into my home.

I came to the conclusion that underneath many many layers, there is a rebel Cami that likes to make an appearance every once in awhile.  But instead of breaking any laws, I do ‘uber crazy things like decorate with bold lush colors, instead of white.

Or make changes that can’t be missed, rather than my traditional oh-so-subtle touches.

So here we have it.  Cami at her worst.

Or is it my best?

Whatever it is, “Extreme-rebel-colorful-Cami” had lots and lots of fun bringing in the colors of Fall into her home.

And I apologize for sharing my living room a second time this season, but I simply could not resist the photo opportunity the lovely colors brought with them.

If you are feeling a little rebellious yourself, and would like to bring Fall branches into your home, keep in mind that placing them in water will lengthen the time before they curl up and dull slightly.  However, they most likely will not last full and vibrant for more than a week and a half.  But we’ve all enjoyed watching as they curl and Fall bit by bit onto the floor.

There was an instance where we had locked ourselves out of our home (another story for another day) and my 9 year old was desperately peaking inside the window pleading to get in to her lovely Fall home.

I may have gone overboard.  It may have been a bit extreme to bring a forest inside our home, but for the 2 weeks they lasted, every one of us thought it was magical and so uplifting.

I challenge you to take advantage of the few weeks left that we have where every leaf is a flower, and bring a branch or two indoors.

  1. I LOVE it. Thank you for sharing, where I live it is still hot and green. If we are lucky, we get fall color but most often things just turn brown. Enjoy nature’s beauty for the rest of us! And tbh, while I appreciate your usual “clean” style, it can get a bit *boring* for children and those of us who are still kids on the inside! 🙂 No wonder your children loved it!

  2. It certainly is stunning against the white. However, not to be a Debbie Downer, cutting off branches from trees could be damaging and destroying their beauty. Respectfully and not being critical, I don’t think a few weeks of fresh beautiful color is worth damaging our trees. In northern Michigan, I daily see huge logging trucks on our roadways. We are losing our beautiful forests.

  3. What FANTASTIC !!! colors , the tree branch looks like it is coral. Wish we had leaves those colors. Let Extreme Cami out more often – she has a flare for color. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS !

  4. Hello Cami, this is really beautiful fall decoration. It looks like you are highlighting nature as art work with the neutral background. It makes home more beautiful. I like all your decoration tips. Your ideas are really interesting and fabulous. I always love to keep changing my home decoration. Thanks for giving some new thoughts. Keep sharing!

  5. I think all the comments above pretty much cover it. The contrast is really beautiful and it is so easy to implement. I am from the Caribbean so I find the bright colors attractive!

  6. I love the colors and how they pop out in contrast to the white room. It’s a great and simple idea for decoration, the only thing for me is how to deal with all the leaves when they fell on the floor.

  7. Well, Cami, you get my standing ovation–not only for the lovely and elegant decor, but your mad photography skills. Cheers, Ardith

  8. Wow! I love Minimalistic Cami and all your wonderful white but this is absolutely stunning! Definitely let Rebel Cami out now and then 🙂

  9. I can’t blame you, there is a lot of beautiful color out there and why wait till go outside to see it. I have privet hedge and they have beautiful green and purple berries i bring inside.

  12. This is minimalism at its VERY BEST!!!! Cami it’s beautiful because it’s REAL! It’s FREE! It’s creation speaking the glory majesty and splendor to us right in our very homes! Pleeeeze let Rebel Cami out more often?

    1. And…I’m so jealous. In central Texas the leaves turn….. brown! A few trees turn yellow (hackberry?) but by the time they do half of the leaves have already fallen. So enjoy it for those of us who don’t have color Sunday?
