It’s time to share our news and plans for our recently purchased 25 acres of property! See it and hear it all in this video we had made to give you a glimpse into our dreams.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve decided NOT to share this. I mean, it is one thing to dream bigger than your britches, and another to share that dream with the world.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

I’m sure there will be critics who say such a big venture is impossible or a really bad idea. I’m sure we will have plenty of setbacks that I will then have to explain. I can bet revealing our plans will invite opposition into our lives. But if there is one thing I’ve learned from 99% of my readers and followers, it is that you guys have my back.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

Opening up and being vulnerable on this blog has almost always brought about encouragement and hope from you all! It is for that reason that I’ve decided to share it all! Whether it all comes to pass or not, I’d like to take you along for the ride. Whether our dreams come to reality or not, I want to encourage you to dream no matter what.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

I invite you to watch this video below and discover what our land looks like (when not covered in snow) and listen as we explain the hopes and dreams we have for this beautiful 25 acres of land, that came about by nothing short of a miracle.

I’ll transcribe our talking points below, but I would really love you to also get the full effect and connect with our imperfect selves in this video!

TIDBITS “DREAM BIG” VIDEO

CAMI:  It feels so vulnerable to share such a big dream with the world.  I mean, it’s possible this is a really bad idea and we could fall flat on our faces . . . but I think we’d rather fail then live our whole lives with this dream and never do anything about it.

KEVIN:  We’ve invested everything we had into buying 25 acres of property.  It’s really the most incredible land.  It’s sitting right against some incredible Utah mountains. There is wide open space along with hillside, trails, brush and trees, all overlooking the valley floor.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

CAMI:  The dreams we have for this property are so much bigger than a home.  Way bigger than our budget, feels bigger than us. But because of the events that have led up to this, I have to believe our dream isn’t bigger than God.

KEVIN:  We’ve really been working towards this dream for over 2 years now, when the first idea and desire came together.  It was nothing but dead ends for a long time.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

CAMI:  We took our first big leap of faith, perhaps trusting too much in a “hot housing market”, moved into a rental home and put our house up for sale.  Well, after 6 months of 2 house payments, we started to really second guess ourselves.

KEVIN:  There was one particular night where both of us were so discouraged.  We thought long and hard about moving back and giving up, or taking a different path.  Little did we know we would wake up to a full price offer on our house, and unlike the first offer that fell through, it closed without any problems.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

CAMI:  We were thrilled, of course, but still without hope on the main thing we needed to really go after our dream.  Property.

KEVIN:  Nothing was working out.  I was calling farmers, investors, cold calling and talking to as many people as I could that might have connections to land.  Then finally, this land came about in the most unexpected way, at the perfect time, and at a price we could actually afford.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

CAMI:  It’s absolutely perfect for what we hope to do.

CAMI:  Being a Interior Design and DIY blogger, I plan to take my readers and followers along for every step of the way.  I just thought it might be a good idea to explain our dream and hopes, so it will make more sense when I tell them we are going to build a tiny pole barn to live in on our 25 acres.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

KEVIN:  While we do intend to build our forever home on this land someday, the main hope is to build a venue.  A place for a variety of events and gatherings. To make this happen, we might have to sacrifice some of our own comforts for awhile.

CAMI:  The way we see it, this is going to have to all happen in 6 phases.  This all could take us 5 years. 10 years, I don’t know. We are just excited to start and hope to find plenty of joy in the journey – alongside the hard work ahead of us.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

CAMI:  Okay. So phase 1.  We need to get out of our rent payments as soon as possible, so phase 1 is building a home . . . a small home . . . okay . . . a barn.

KEVIN:  Cami is making it sound worse than it will be.  We will basically be building a one level home using post beam construction and purchasing a pole barn kit for the exterior.  This is actually a very affordable way to build a home, and getting more and more popular. With Cami’s eye for design, I think we can pull of a very nice, comfortable home to live in for awhile.  Once we build our actual home, it can easily be converted to a studio, workshop or a rental.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

CAMI:  All of this will definitely entail a lot of DIY – which will be great for the blog!

Phase 2 is the venue, and we’ve picked the perfect spot for it where it has an incredible mountain view and valley view.  Our main goal for this building will be to allow a place for retreats, reunions, possibly weddings and other special events.  We just mainly hope it can become a place for learning, connecting, training, healing, celebrating, creating – really just be a blessing in the lives of many.  It’s going to be a big endeavour, that we really have no idea how we will pull it off . . . but we are sure going to try.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

KEVIN:  Phase 3 is going to happen as soon as I can get it going.  We want to take a few acres of this land and plant lavender.  Not only will it add to the beauty of the land, but the harvest might also help us provide the means to do other things.

CAMI:  Phase 4 will be an outdoor venue of sorts, just building off of the first venue and providing a variety of options for the types of events people might want to hold.  Where we live, there seems to be an imbalance. There are many churches and civic centers where events are held, which aren’t always super glamorous, and then there is the other end of the spectrum where there are a few very nice, very pricey places to book.  We hope to meet somewhere in the middle, and provide a beautiful, affordable, and unique gathering place. A place to meet both local needs and be a destination point for an incredible country experience.

Big plans and dreams for our 25 acres of property.

KEVIN:  If things go well, and we have room to grow, phase 5 will bring in a handful of small cottages to suit overnight stay and offer more commodities to the venue itself.

CAMI:  If we are not too old to care or too worn out after all that, we will build our home.  The home we’ve dreamed of to raise our children, who will hopefully not all be out of the house at this point!  That’s phase 6.

CAMI:  We’ve decided the greater purpose in all of this is really, to teach our kids to go after their dreams.  Teach them to work, to serve, and to hopefully grow closer together by working and serving together. There is also a part of me that hopes to use this to make my work come alive.  As much as I love my online job, I’d much prefer to create real tangible experiences to inspire others on a much deeper level. And Kevin has always had a great desire to homestead, build, work the land – all these things combined has created this dream inside of us.

CAMI:  I told you it was a big dream, and I’m scared to death to put this out there.  But God has moved mountains and worked mighty miracles in our hearts, so unless we get the promptings to take it another direction, I have to believe this is the path He wants us to take.  I have to believe that all this is possible and that dreams are worth chasing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to discover our plans and dreams! I hope you’ll stick around and watch as we work towards our big plans. I’d love to hear what you think in the comments below! Feel free to share a dream you have, so I can cheer you on too!

  1. Ignore the negative. Doubt is a surety. Most people just dream and read books about people that took the leap. Good luck

  2. We looked for a retirement home location for 2 years before finding one. We bought a rural lake, one acre lot and started with architect. During that process, a place on the lake came on the market..home on one acre..right up the road from our lot. Groan…. decision and lots of prayer. We bought the existing home and have been here for 14 years now.
I painted full verses on our kitchen pantry door….Deuteronomy 8:7-10. Those exact blessings were already growing on the place. We still have our original acre down the road. Our children and grands are eyeing it for when they retire. The Lord is gracious and good and to be praised !

  3. I love this story! My husband and I are old, 76 years old, but young at heart and in spirit. We have traveled to 9 states and owned 13 homes. From the starter one to the big fancy ones we didn’t need after our kids were grown. Although they all came to us frequently with their kids so the big houses got used. We had 3 and 4 houses at a time. Four years ago we decided we wanted simple, we have owned a 16 acre property on a lake, in the woods for over 40 years. It had a trailer on it, that we would use for days at a time. We loved being back home in Mn. We built a 900 sq. ft. cabin so our visits would be more comfortable. After 1 year we knew this is where we wanted to be in the summer so we sold the last big house and built a separate unit with a big garage and work shop, an office for hubby and a craft/reading room for me. Upstairs is an apt. for guests, a full kitchen/living room area, a bathroom and a bedroom. It is adorable. We kept the original trailer for over flow guests. Now I am inspired to remodel it based on your success in your trailer. We live in a condo in Fl. in the winter and love the peacefulness of Mn. and the fun Latin influence in Fl. We are blessed. I will look at all of your plans for ideas!
Follow your dreams before you are 76! Best of luck with your endeavors.

  4. Hello, I landed here from seeing your RV renovation which is really beautiful! I’m excited for you guys, all the best to you and your family!

  5. Congratulations, your land is beautiful and your dreams for it are amazing. It may be a huge undertaking but I have no doubt you and your family will succeed. I look forward to seeing your progress. Thank you for sharing your dreams with us!?

  6. Ps:
Instead of a huge fire pit, get a gas, fire pit!!
Burning logs, leaves the clothes smoky and if people have allergies, it is a set up… and then you have laundry.
We got a small gas grill to grill outside, but you may not be able to do that yet.
Love the view from your property!!! Enjoy the time spent together.
Color code towels if possible and wash clothes; you can tell if ,” your wash cloth,” has been used! I made small wash clothes to use only to wipe mouths and hands!
    Enjoy!! Praying for great weather!!!
    Carrie

  7. Your living my dream Cami. I hope the best for you. I used to get blog messages from a lady who wanted to do the same thing. She and her husband sold all they had and bought an RV that they lived in as they traveled around until they found the perfect place to homestead. She had some amazing ideas as well. During that time she posted a website that the govenment put out on homesteads. Some of those places were beautiful and very self sustaining. Provided their their food and enough to sell in their roadside stand. Starting from scratch is exciting. I hope it all works out as you would like. Miss seeing you and your famliy on Sundays.

    1. Thank you so much Marlyne! So good to hear from you! I hope it all works out too and we are buckling down for quite a journey!

  8. I am too old for a huge project like this. It’s all I can do to help abandoned cats with my poor health. However, I must tell you that reading this is so inspirational! Your dream is so lovely! I will follow. God bless you and your family! 🙂

  9. This is AWESOME! It’s all going to work out in God’s time!!
We did the same thing 1 1/2 years ago – bought land with a terrible house on it. We wanted the land so bad that we agreed to move into the ‘terrible’ house and sell our really NICE home. We’re still here…looking at boxes all around us and just saving the money to finally do a complete redo of the house. When we get discouraged…we just walk the land (it looks like a park it’s so beautiful) and say to each other…’remember…this is why we bought it and once day we’ll get our nice home again’. I tried to watch your videos above. I’m not seeing the link?

  10. Cami , I have no doubt that you and yours will succeed . I am looking forward to seeing how you decorate the new home – let’s face it – you have Excellent taste ! I especially LOVED the one where you had the fall branches in a vase and the leaves scattered on the floor – GORGEOUS ! You are right ‘ with God all things are possible ‘. Looking forward to seeing your progress and will be praying for God to guide you every step of the way . Love and prayers to you and your family .

  11. This is amazing, Cami. My dad talked about building an event venue like 20 years ago… it’s been a need in the valley for a long time! I’m so happy you’ll be the one to finally do it!

  15. Daily Blessing by Susie Larson-
May Jesus increase His territory through you! May you allow Him more access to your soul, more influence in your life, and more voice in your choices. And When you come to the edges of yourself and you’re hemmed in by your own humanity, don’t despair, rejoice! There’s more of Jesus for you! The enemy of your soul wants you focused on your disappointments and limitations. The Savior of your soul wants you to look up and believe Him for great things. Don’t let your heart be troubled. May Jesus answer your prayers and profoundly love the world through you!

Such awesome plans and the property looks beautiful! Three acres of lavender sounds so wonderful, hope you sell some to all of your blog readers! Blessings to your family!

  21. So happy for you Cami and I look forward to following along and seeing these dreams come to life! The lavender field sounds amazing!

  22. How exciting. God is amazing and can do far more than we could ever imagine. Although, in your case, I’d say the imagining has already been done.

Fifteen years ago we bought an adorable little red cabin about two hours from our home. We always wanted a cabin with outbuildings. This one had two. We built a little she-shed that’s even cuter. So now I have three outbuildings. Never be afraid to dreams your dreams.

God bless and best of luck.

  23. I found myself with tears in my eyes and a big smile as I watched your video. You are so courageous to share your dreams but I have no doubt that you will have an awesome adventure as you develop, refine, and build each stage of those dreams. Just look at the gleaming faces of each of your children who show positive anticipation for the changes ahead. I look forward to reading about each step and hope that you will continue to find the time to keep your followers in the loop. God bless you all!

  24. What a wonderful dream – thanks for sharing your heart for God and His land. We have a similar dream and have a 20-acre lot that we have our eyes on but waiting on God’s timing and release. He can do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask for or can conceive. I’ll believe with you for your dream and am excited about following along the process. Our children are grown so it makes it a lot easier as empty nesters but it will be a great learning experience for your children. Blessings on your entire family! I love lavender and use Young Living Essentials Oils who have beautiful lavender farms in Utah – you may want to drive by to see the beauty if it’s close by.

  25. What a beautiful and inspiring dream! I look forward to reading along as your family takes this adventure. We moved to Utah from Arizona this summer, so maybe someday we’ll be future users of your venue options 🙂 I’m excited for you!!

  26. Cami!

I applaud your courage to share your dream with the world before you’ve even gotten very far into it! I can attest to the power in speaking those words out loud and sharing your vision with others. Somehow it makes things more real, invites opportunities and information to help you on the path, and builds even deepen inner commitment to see things through. You really are teaching your kids to not just follow their dreams, but seriously how to follow promptings and live by faith! I’m thrilled for you guys and am excited to watch how this all unfolds! And I feel super lucky to live close enough to even pop by and see it sometime 🙂 You’re an inspiration! Way to be brave and bold and make great things happen!! I just love you!

  27. Thank you sweet Abby for watching and chilling with me 😉 . You’ve always been an inspiration to me and I am so grateful for your encouragement! Hugs!

  28. It all sounds like a well thought out dream/plan, to which you both have given a great deal of consideration while setting realistic milestones. So best wishes on bringing it to life, while enjoying the process and applying your combined skills and talents. It will be an honor to travel along on your new journey. Cheers, Ardith

    1. Glad to have you join along! Yes, we are in the US and enjoy all 4 seasons. I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop! Thank you!

  30. Cami and Kevin, keep chasing your dreams and trusting God for guidance and provision! At 67 years of age, I’m still learning to dream big and trust God and believe I will continue to do so until He takes me home. Your plans will bless many and provide a place of refuge as a retreat center. The destination wedding venue (with AFFORDABLE as the key word) is a marvelous idea! I intend to follow you throughout this endeavor! God’s richest blessings on you and your family!

    1. Sounds like you’ve caught on to our vision Helen! Thank you so much for the encouragement! I often wonder why I fear and can’t seem to just trust completely when His miracles never cease around me and those I love. Pushing forward with complete trust on this one, because we will never be able to do it without Him! Big hugs!

  31. Such a beautiful dream in such an amazing place! Wishing you God’s Grace as you move through your plans. May He guide your footsteps along the way!

  32. Hi Cami, Congratulations!!! Don’t ever give up on your dreams! My husband and I found 20 acres of land back in 2016 and we weren’t sure how we were going to be able to afford to purchase it, but we were fortunate to find the seller was willing to work out a payment plan. Our home sold and 5 days and we moved into out Mobile home for 6 months with two dogs…one being a great dane!! Trust me living in a small space certainly tested us!! We experienced many bumps in the road but never gave up on the bigger picture after the contractor that was to build our home backed out and we were forced to search for another. We were forced to move into an apartment(got too cold in camper, we live in the northeast) for 1 year. We are finally living in our forever/dream home. What you plan on doing with the land sounds wonderful!!! You may face many obstacles but don’t lose sight of the bigger picture! Best wishes for you and your family.

    1. Well Kristy – you just answered my prayers! We just bought a major fixer upper trailer so we can park it and live on the property while we work on our barn home. It will hopefully save us thousands and allow us to do this together rather than separate. But 6 people in a trailer! I was having serious doubts today but your comment was my tender mercy that it would be ok. Rough, tough, but ok. I’ll certainly be sharing that here soon, but I would love any tips you have for me! Thank you so much for your story of faith and encouragement!

  33. God is bigger than anything we can dream up. He wants us to have the desires of our heart. It sounds like HIS timing was perfect. Congrats on the big move and for stepping out in faith to make this grandiose dream a reality. Can’t wait to see how your vision evolves.

    1. Isn’t that an interesting thought. He is even bigger than our biggest dreams! Thank you so much for your encouragement today!

  34. I am so excited for you and know that if we have faith we can move mountains, God is so good and loves to see us happy and content and i can’t wait to see all he will do in your lives. You are a wonderful family and will be in my prayers.

    1. We have such a loving Father in Heaven, don’t we?! I’m so extremely grateful to be added to your prayers Marlene, and so grateful for your encouragement!

  35. Wow! This is very exciting! I think it sounds great and the phased approach is very smart! I love that you are both onboard! I only wish you were here in CA so I could visit! Can’t wait to see it all happen on your blog!

    1. We are not always onboard the same vision, but this one has come together so seamlessly for both of us. Part of why I feel we must go on. No matter what, we will be united in the ups and downs. Thank you so much for your kind comment!

  36. Cami!!!! Ive been dying to see the property since you first told me and I loved very our video! It’s gorgeous! I’m so stinking excited for you.

    1. My dear friend whose heard all my crazy ideas before it was even close to being a reality. I’m always so grateful for your encouragement, and you can bet when all this is said and done, you and I are going to throw an epic blogger retreat! Right??!!

  37. I don’t think your plans are crazy at all! I think they are perfectly thought out and quite practical. The land is lovely and your beautiful family will have such an adventure as you bring your dreams to fruition. God is so incredibly great!!!

    1. Thank you Mary for the encouragement! Somedays it feels far from practical, but I know growth happens way outside our comfort zones. God is so great and I’m so grateful for the direction He continues to give us!

  38. Wow! But, you’re right – nothing is bigger than our God! Stay focused on what God wants to do in and through your life that will bring glory and honor to Him and you’ll accomplish your big dreams with His help. I wish you well in your endeavors and look forward to each update. God bless you and your family!

    1. So perfectly said Linda, and it went straight to my heart. We have always hoped that this big dream was a way for us to be instruments in His hands, and I’m still searching for the guidance to help it become exactly what He has in mind. So grateful for your encouragement and for following me along!

  39. Congratulations! The views are beautiful, and I’m so happy for you! All of your ideas are fantastic, but the lavender farm especially peeked my interest because I’m planning to expand my small one in my backyard this spring. Your husband did great, and the video was so well put together. Curious: at the 5:30 mark there is a paw-print in the path you are walking. Big dog? Big cat??

    1. Thank you Christie! We are both so obsessed with lavender and have TONS to learn still about that venture. We’ve grown several plants in our yards and know it does well here, but a whole FARM! It’s going to be interesting! I had to go back and look at the print you mentioned! I didn’t even catch that! My guess is a dog. A lot of deer hunters will walk this property with their dogs – something we are going to have to put a stop to soon! But there are always creatures big and small exploring this property too! I’m going to need a big dog to keep an eye on my kiddos, I think!

  40. I will be praying for your dream!
Over 20 years ago, we purchased a lot beside a lake & built a house
there! It was difficult to “wait on the Lord” for everything to evolve, but we did &
it turned out like we had dreamed! Now we have owned & shared it with many others for almost 20 years. We are now retired and ready to make our lives less complicated. We are getting ready to place the house in the mountains up for sale and get ready to be able to travel. I know that your dream will happen as ours did!!

    1. By the lake! That sounds like a dream! And how wonderful you got to share it with others. We’ve felt all along this land was not just for us to enjoy by ourselves – hence the vision. Though, it does sound tempting to skip all the work and just enjoy it ourselves! Thank you so much for the encouragement to keep dreaming and doing!

  41. Congrats!!!! With God all things are possible, never give up . Such an exciting time for you. Enjoy this adventure.

  42. Amazing!
    God is good!
I really love your plans… the lavender idea is so very neat and what a amazing view and scent that will be.
Good luck to you and your family and keep going after your happily ever after… your dream sure seems like an amazing plan.

    1. I know! Can you just imagine the smell!? I’m kinda worried about the bees . . . I hate bees. I sure appreciate your support!

  43. Cami,
It is scary when you step out in faith, but when ?is for you who could be against you!
I pray ??? will continue to develop your desires/calling for this area. And be a blessing to many! Working as a team and having the same vision is the hardest step in a marriage, you already are in one accord and that is huge! ??. I can’t wait to see your upcoming videos 2019 will be a great Year!
    Blessings,
    Miriam

    1. Your words were like medicine for my soul! Thank you so very much! It was really hard to put all this out here but now I don’t know what I would do without all this wonderful support from readers like you! Big hugs!

  44. So exciting! Can’t wait to follow you through this adventure.
I would love to hear more about the pole barn house you are going to build !
Enjoy every minute of your journey ❤️

    1. Michelle, you can bet I’ll be over sharing all about that soon! We just got our plans engineered and can’t wait to share more! Thank you for following along!

  45. You and your children will love being out in the country! We owned 23 acres for 25 years and raised our kids there. Best place for kids and their friends to run. When we we’d have birthday parties, their school friends (who were all city kids) would come out and it was so nice to watch them. It was like they’d been set free and they’d never stop running in the wide open spaces the whole time they were here! Of course, there will be tons of things to think about. Drainage, are there sewers, or will you have to put in a septic system, water, heat, hydro…every little darn thing and the unforeseen will likely throw you way over your budget. Good luck to you. This is a massive undertaking.

    1. Colleen, we have yearned for country land since the beginning! Even without our home here, watching my kids explore and run around fills our hearts to the max! I had to laugh, my pre-teen daughter says she wants to have the party house 😉 . 25 acres should do it, right 😉 . We are already learning how much is going into this just for now! Got our septic permit, waiting on a well permit, and a whole bunch of other things! I should be pretty good on patience by the time this is through! Thanks so much for following along and for the encouragement!

  46. I love, love, love your plan!!! There’s a couple pole barn houses near me and I think they’re awesome. And I know people in CO that are turning their ranches into wedding venues, sports camps for kids in the summer, and camps for families for children with autism and disabilities. It’ll be exciting to see how God leads you and your family. Thanks for sharing. I’ll be praying Eph 3:20 for y’all.

    1. Thank you for the encouragement Moriah! The pole barns are definitely getting more popular and I’m so excited to see how it all works out. I love to hear stories like that of buildings being used for so much good and community support. My biggest prayer right now is that we will build it to suit whatever God has in mind – something I’m still not entirely clear about. I sure appreciate your prayers and am looking that verse of scripture up now! Thank you for following along!

  47. Very interesting dreams you have here! Honestly I have no doubt that you will achieve them.

I was intrigued with your pole barn concept and really, really wanted a much closer look at the layout. I didn’t – and still don’t – understand the reason for two separate buildings, if that is, indeed, what I am seeing. It doesn’t appear that the smaller building is a garage, so I am left wondering. I am sure as you progress you’ll share more information on that.

It occurs to me that this sort of basic home, while only a step on the way for you, would be a fantastic idea for people approaching retirement. I will be watching this part of your progress with the most interest, and wish you well with all of it. It’s going to be fun, I’m sure!

    1. Thanks for your comment and confidence in us Georgene! I can’t wait to get started on the pole barn. We’ve been researching them for years as a possible way to build a more affordable home, and its way exciting that we will be able to give it a shot and hopefully show others how they could make it work for them too. We had to get our county to approve it, first and foremost. We almost have the plans engineered, and then I can share a bit more. But the second building is the garage. It will be a very basic structure but with Utah winters and summers, a garage is almost a must! It is sectioned off so my husband can have somewhere for a wood shop because he will be doing so much of this himself. Then the smaller part is a utility room, since there is nowhere in the house itself for that stuff. This is definitely going to be a learning experience, and I’m excited to be able to have a place to share it all! Thanks for following along!
