5 Things moms can do to find peace and joy during the Holidays.

*This post is gratefully sponsored by my friends at Deborah Connolly Designs.  They have such lovely and unique towel and linen designs and I so enjoyed playing with these beauties behind my lens.  Be sure to look for their work and products at your local Homegoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls.  All thoughts and opinions are my own . . . or in this instance, some are the thoughts of my Instagram followers.

In my mind, behind every beautiful and magical Christmas morning scene, lives one tired and completely exhausted momma.

You can give me an “Amen sista”, high five, pound it . . . or even shake your head in disgust at my perception.

While I completely admit to loving and adoring the Christmas season for so many reasons, I have found myself for the last 3-4 years thinking quietly (with a big sigh of relief), “Finally.  It’s over.”

5 Things moms can do to find peace and joy during the Holidays.

I’m not proud to admit it, in fact, I can’t believe I just put that on the world wide web!

For shame.

But you see, there is the shopping, the money spending, the planning, the parties, the decorating, the clutter, the mess, the junk food, the hyped up children, the workload, the wrapping, the mom guilt, the traditions, the expectations, the . . . . . . . . . . . . the list goes on.

As much as I love the magic, the joy, the happiness – when all is said and done, this momma of 4 can’t wait to move on with life.

If you can relate, I’m so glad you are here today!  I asked some of my Instagram friends if finding peace and joy during the Holidays was possible for moms, and the responses filled my heart to the tippy top.  I’m going to share these words of wisdom with you today.

5 Things moms can do to find peace and joy during the Holidays.

If you have already found great joy and peace during each Holiday season, please share your thoughts in the comments below!  I will treasure each and every word.

Each Holiday season brings me moments of joy and peace, but I would love to have those feelings throughout the whole December month . . . wouldn’t you?  I’m glad to have discovered the actual possibility from these inspiring mothers and women who shared their thoughts with me on Instagram.  The encouraging community there is my absolute favorite social place to be!

So lets explore 5 things moms can do to find peace and joy during the Holidays.

*I’ve linked to the IG account of each lovely woman who shared these thoughts.  Please take a moment to thank them if their words sank deep into your heart also.

1 – SIMPLIFY

Let’s start simple 😉

It takes courage to live with less, and appreciate more.

From @farmhousegreen:

“Simplify. Less is more. So many activities packed in this time of year! ? Quality time.”

From @dianekunkel:

“Simplify.  It’s okay to turn down an invitation or two.”

From @theintentionalmama

“Do less”

Well . . . why didn’t I think of that 😉

From @riggstownroad

“Say no to most things. And keep everything as SIMPLE as possible. ?”

From @chaseandwendyadopt

“Simplify. Have shopping done by second week in December. Let go of control. Make time to watch holiday movies. Did I mention simplify? (I.e.We don’t need to make cutesie neighbor gifts- lets serve them instead.)”

2 – PRIORITIZE

However you prioritize your Holiday, A. B. C. or 1. 2. 3. or lots and lots of X’s . . . these ladies have shown me that it’s an absolute must if I’m to find peace and joy in my life.

From @druatkinson13

“A very wise pastor/friend taught me this a long time ago! Make a list of A,B and C. Today you do the A’s and maybe one B and you just read through the C’s. Tomorrow your B’s become A’s and your C’s become B’s! This has helped me for 30 years!

From @summeradamsdesigns

“Such a good thing to ponder! One thing I am going to do, and it is truly helping, is to be really disciplined with my time. Also stop whatever I’m doing and take moments to just sit and cuddle with my kids or watch a Christmas movie or bake together. Even if it means I have to stay up till 3 AM to write a blog post. Those are moments with our kids that are priceless and even if I’m tired the next day, I feel at peace with my time well spent.”

From @dianekunkel

“Pick a few things that are meaningful. And we stopped exchanging gifts with friends and extended family. I no longer make gifts…too much stress.”

From @cattmath12

“Pray first! Then think about what really matters. Your family and select friends! What do you want to remember when you’re 75? Cozy and special and fun and silly moments with them! Everything else fades to grey! So let everything else slip away from list! More fun more chocolate!???”

3 – DELEGATE

My hubs always tells me I need to delegate, and then stay out of it!  That is so hard to do when you are a control freak.  But I loved these thoughts from these gals!

From @happywifeyuppylife

Last year I let my daughter wrap the presents (except hers!) even though it’s one of my favourite things to do. She loved every minute of it and was so proud of it. (And she even surprised me with how neat she wrapped everything!)”

From @numberfiftythree

“Delegating is a TOUGH one for me. But, I just wanted to say those tiny trees are just precious! ?”

Oh good.  Another type A personality.  Let’s all focus on cute trees when we can’t delegate 😉

From @dianekunkel

“I ask my husband for help when I’m feeling overwhelmed.”

Ask for help . . . what an idea!  Thanks Diane!

4 – PAMPER

I met and chatted with the sweetest southern lady in the Alberta airport once.  I’ll never forget what she told me when I casually mentioned I had 4 kids.

“You gotsta take care of yo’self.  You just gotsta.”

The sweetest conversation between a couple of IG friends.

From @mpolensky

I raised my son by myself from the time he was 15 months old. He only saw his father 3 to 4 times a year and lived in a different city. So let me tell you, I had a hard time finding ways to unwind. Usually bubble baths after he was in bed, watching my favorite movies after he was in bed. When he went to see his dad I added a little champagne to the above. (LOL)”

In response to @mpolensky, from @druatkinson13

“Hi~ I am Dru.. I applaud you! My sweet Mom raised seven children all by herself! She was and still remains my hero! I am the woman I have become because of her tenacity, fearlessness and strength like no other! I miss her everyday! Pour yourself another glass my dear and smile because you are the first woman he ever loved and the one who sets an example worthy to follow!”

From @artandsand

“Nothing like a mani/pedi to rejuvenate me- the massage chair puts me to sleep.”

5 – BELIEVE

I couldn’t wrap this up any better if I tried.  To these inspiring women of faith, may God bless you.

From @druatkinson13

“Before I go to sleep I recant all that I accomplished and say well done! If nothing gets done that day..I ask God for strength and the gift of more days and start fresh in the morning! Blessings on all you do…it will be beautiful!”

From @nancy_sue_ryan

“Pray before you even get out of bed each morning. Just take 3 minutes to thank God for another day with your family and ask Him to help you focus on the things that truly matter in life. Give your To Do list to the Lord and ask Him to guide you throughout the day. God is good, and so are you!”

From @dtowns10

“This verse has been on my heart all year for many reasons: “You keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You. ” Of course simplifying and prioritizing help during the holidays, but peace and joy will only come when we place our focus on Christ alone. Our best laid plans can fall apart, but we don’t have to fall apart when we are trusting Jesus… no matter what happens this December.”

  1. Cami thanks so much for all of your beautiful thoughts, ideas, and inspirational words. You are a genius! I would LOVE my very own Christmas card from you, a true treasure!

  2. “Also stop whatever I’m doing and take moments to just sit and cuddle with my kids” – this resonates with me at this time of year as my children are all grown and moved away and not always with me for Christmas. I take pleasure in knowing they all have someone special in their lives to share all the things but I still miss the absolute chaos of Christmases past and look forward to the times I do have to share with them and their partners! Merry Christmas to you and your x

    1. I’m going to re-read this when the chaos begins! Thank you so much for helping me remember to treasure my little ones, especially this time of year! Hope your Holiday is filled with love!
