Introducing TIDBITS 2017 Christmas decor theme . . . (drum roll please) . . . A Colorful Christmas!  Take a peek at some of the goods I’ve gathered, colors I’m playing with, and my plans for a merry and bright Season.

Do you re-decorate your Christmas every year?  I’m talking new theme, new ornaments, entire new look?

Yes?!  Oh hello blogger friends!

No?!  Oh hello normal people of the world.

But if you are somewhere in between a blogger and a normal person, you are welcome here as well 😉

Introducing my Colorful Christmas decor theme and inspiration.

This past Fall, I decided to introduce my Fall home decor color theme and ideas before sharing any actual decor in my home.  It was so fun for all of us, so I decided to do it for this Christmas as well.

Though “A Colorful Christmas” is millions of miles away from my white and blue comfort zone, I jumped onto this ship with my whole soul after seeing these vintage ornaments at an antique store.

I was even smitten with the old cardboard boxes they were in.

I also knew “A Colorful Christmas” would delight my children beyond words, and that was enough motivation for me.  You see, last year I did a French Farmhouse Christmas, and it was very much about natural evergreen clippings and simple simple decor.  I thought it was beautiful and perfect and unforgettable.

But when I drilled my family on what they thought about last years decor, none of them (even Mr. TIDBITS) could recollect what we did.  Apparently, it was simple enough for them that is was forgettable.

This didn’t make me too sad because we shared memories together that we will all remember, but it did leave me with a desire to gear my decor more towards their ages and stages and surround our home with color and excitement for all to love.

I’ll also admit that some of my motives are because I am a home decor blogger.  I take my responsibility to provide you with new fresh ideas for your home, very seriously.  I’d hate to be too predictable 😉

This colorful theme provided a lot of DIY possibilities, in fact, perhaps more so than other decor themes.  I’ve learned finding what I imagine in stores is near impossible, because it is not a traditional theme.  I’ll be back to share lots of tutorials and projects that you can adapt to your own themes and colors.

It’s also a fact that when you want to switch up your Holiday decor every year, the only way to afford it is to fill your home with as many DIY’s and thrift finds as possible.  But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

(All 50 cent thrift finds below).

Because of the vintage ornaments I originally found as my initial inspiration, I wanted to call it “A Vintage Christmas“.  But as the colorful theme warped and changed as I sprinkled my home with each decoration, my definition changed and generalized.

It’s a bit vintage, a bit shabby, a bit like a cotton candy wonderland.

So rather than call it “A Vintage, Shabby, Candyland Christmas“, we will simplify things and say “A Colorful Christmas“.

Sound good?  If you are a theme person like I tend to be, it is absolutely okay to mix and match your themes to come up with a one of a kind Christmas.

Let me share a wee glimpse at some of the things I’ve found and made.

I have big plans for this box of old bottle brush trees and wreaths.

One of the hardest things for me to figure out was the stockings.  I knew I wanted velvet, and I knew I wanted colorful.  But the stores didn’t seem to get my memo.

But what I did find was these crazy affordable velvet pillow covers on Amazon, which also happen to be luxuriously soft.

They will of course adorn my sofas and beds, but I also cut them up and used the fabric to make some one-of-a-kind colorful velvet stockings.

It’s so easy to do!  Who would like a tutorial?!

I also found this darling Etsy shop called Smile Mercantile, which inspired many vintage finds and DIY projects.
