Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, we drag out our Christmas boxes.  There is so much excitement that comes with this.  The kids are grabbing at everything with such joy in their faces, while I try not to freak out while they hand everything to me all at once.  Meanwhile, hubs carries up the boxes and puts up the hard to reach stuff.  Christmas music is blaring in the background and we all reminisce of years past and what each item means to us.
Good fun.
But before we drag out those boxes, I can be found on Pinterest looking at all wonderful Christmas decorating ideas so many bloggers deck the halls with.  And I feel this unquenchable thirst to try it all, and make-over my Christmas . . . again.  This time I want to try, silver and gold.  Or maybe an all white Christmas.  Or even better, a french inspired Christmas.  Or should it be a traditional white and red Christmas?
However, as soon as we open up the first box, I am reminded why I LOVE our Christmas decorations.  And maybe, just maybe, I’ll wait until next year to re-decorate Christmas.
Back in 2011, we ditched all our mis-matched, random Holiday decor from our college days, and decided to re-decorate Christmas.  We picked a theme that we felt would help us remember the true spirit of Christmas (okay, and a theme I felt would work with the color scheme I wanted).  The theme was “Way Back When”.  It all went so well with our tiny old house, but I was surprised to discover how much I loved them still, in our new house.
In Christmas 2011, I recorded it all on my blog as we went along, for a “Re-decorate our Christmas Countdown”.  Starting here.  However, I felt the need to create this all-in-one reference page to help navigate all the things we made and did.
Click on the links above the pictures to take you to the actual post I did years ago to describe each thing (instructions for making it yourself is provided in some of them).
I’ve had fun through the years slowly adding to this theme and making our home feel the warmth of Christmas.
Come back soon to see how it all is coming together in our house this year!

  1. What a beautiful decor. I love all of your projects, colors and how well your fabrics, paints and yarn worked together. Beautiful.
