DIY Upholstered and Slipcovered Bed Building Plans

Skip the expensive price tag, and make your own upholstered and slipcovered bed! Our beautiful linen slipcovered bed will be proof that you can do this, and we will show you how with our bed building plans!

Rarely does a DIY project make me this excited.  Every day I walk into our bedroom and think to myself, “I can’t believe we made that!” 

Today I want to show you our upholstered and slipcovered bed that the hubs and I made entirely by ourselves.  But the best part about it all is that we have created the plans so you can make one too!

If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve finished our kids bedrooms, here, here and here. I’d say are well overdue to finishing our own master bedroom (or primary bedroom) space. I’m excited to keep working on the space and show you a finished reveal soon.

When I was envisioning the bed for this space, I could not help but drool over all the linen slipcovered beds I was seeing from big name designers – specifically Amber Lewis and Studio McGee.  Specifically, I loved the beds with a slipcovered headboard and footboard.

I adored the cozy vibe a linen slipcovered bed gives, and loved the idea of having something soft and plush to lean on while reading at night. 

And frankly, when envisioning my dream bedroom, it was simply covered in linen wherever I could get it. (As you can see, I’m slightly obsessed with linen).

But my plans were a bit derailed when I went online shopping for the perfect linen bed.  The price tags for these king size beds were often well over $6000 – and there was no way I was going to spend that much on a bed. 

When I showed Mr. TIDBITS what I really wanted, he was so confident that we could make it ourselves.  I had my doubts (particularly in my sewing skills), but he convinced me to give it a go!

Now I am hoping to encourage you to do the same!

MAKING YOUR OWN UPHOLSTERED AND SLIPCOVERED BED WITH OUR PLANS

The process was much easier than I imagined and was so forgiving. If you are intimidated by the thoughts of upholstering and slipcovering, rest assured – we had never done it either but it went so well!

If you use our plans you will have the added benefit of our experience and step-by-step guidance. I truly believe any motivated DIY’er can do this!

SOURCES AND STYLING OUR KING SIZE LINEN SLIPCOVERED BED

I’ve been having a lot of fun styling our bed and layering it with even more linen goodness. 

I want to come back and talk with you about layering a king size bed, so if you have any questions about that let me know.  I’ll also come back to share more details about the room in general (once I am done playing around!)

For now, here are some sources for what I am able to link, from what you are seeing in our space. Any materials we used for the bed (fabric, batting, foam, wood, etc.) are listed in the actual plans.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE MATTRESS FOR YOUR BED?

This is the first king size bed we have ever owned, and it has made a world of difference for our sleep!  It helps that we have gotten a new and amazing mattress too!
