It’s the beginning of my favorite season of all . . . Fall . . . sigh.
I’ve been cleaning and sprucing, swapping and fluffing, and doing my best to welcome in the cozy and comforting feeling of the season.
I’ll be slowly taking you through the areas of my home that have become a harvest haven for us. Today, I’m starting out with our outdoor deck space. From the moment we finished our deck makeover, I just couldn’t help but envision sipping hot cocoa out here with the kids, enjoying a comforting dinner around the table, and soaking in the not-too-hot sunshine in the afternoons.
I’m also joining in with 17 majorly talented blogger ladies including one blogger gentlemen, as they welcome Fall into their homes as well. We are calling it the “Harvest Haven Home Tour Fall 2016” and it is being hosted by the sweet gal, Summer from “She Leaves a Little Sparkle“. You can start on her site to begin the whole tour. If you are coming from Lindsey Hill Interiors, then you’ll have to wipe up the drool from your face and close your jaw . . . and then proceed with my Fall Deck tour 😉 Once you get to the end of my post, I’ll direct you to the next Fall Home on the tour.
I really feel like Fall is the absolute best time of the year to be enjoying our outdoor spaces. Summer is just too hot most days, and Spring usually has you busy doing yard work!
But that crispness in the air, and the comforting foods of the harvest just make me want to bundle up in a favorite sweater and enjoy the passing of time doing absolutely nothing.
I try my best to soak it all in before the Winter and Holidays come and speed life up.
I particularly enjoyed myself on the evening I took these images. There was a slight breeze in the air, and rather than tie up the curtains, I embraced the flow and had a blast capturing the movement on my camera.
For the deck, I wanted to stage a dinner setting for you, to show how casual and effortless this time of year can and should be.
I used a very simple centerpiece consisting of a dough bowl I bought at Hobby Lobby for half off, and some wheat clippings my sweet friend surprised me with.
Tell your hubs to skip the grocery store flowers and just pull over on the side of the road and collect a bundle of weeds 😉 . The cheapest brownie points he’ll ever earn!
For the dinnerware, I finally had a chance to make the most of my curated collection. I’ve been collecting interesting ivory dishes and mugs all year whenever I had a chance to get to the thrift stores.
So they don’t all match, but I love the charm in each aged piece I found.
I tied up the napkins with twine and added my Fall Watercolor tags which I’ll be providing the FREE printable for on Wednesday.
Rather than use a tablecloth, I threw down my favorite throw blanket of all time which made the table feel extra cozy and inviting.
Finally I sprinkled divinely fresh peaches down the table and set the remainder in the basket. I can’t ever eat just one peach at a time this season. They are so delicious!
Fresh peaches are my number one reason I love this season. I do my best to make the most of them.
While I was playing around on the deck, my good man was busy in the kitchen throwing together quesadillas for us and the kids. What an enjoyable, relaxing evening we had on the deck together.
I also couldn’t resist some orange roses from the grocery store, and added them to some clippings from the yard.
I also brought out our hot cocoa and wassal to create a easy hot drink station.
And some cold apple cider for my husband and 1 daughter who are not huge fans of warm drinks.
I thought I would also try my hand at keeping some mums alive, and I can’t get enough of the lovely splash of warm color they add to the deck.
So far they are alive and well!
I hope you’ve come away with some decorating ideas and ways to add bits of Fall charm to your home. Mostly I hope you’ll find a way to enjoy the outdoors this beautiful time of year and leave with encouragement to wind down and soak it all in.
We are so fortunate to be surrounded by so much beauty.
