Tintable Chalkboard Closet Doors | Kids Bedroom

Spruce up a flat paneled door with Valspar tintable chalkboard paint, and make it a fun and creative surface for kids.

Let me show you how we replaced our finger pinching bifold closet doors with flat panel tintable chalkboard closet doors for our kids bedroom.  A quick and easy upgrade!

I really do cringe every time I see a bifold closet door, because we’ve had so many owie fingers due to those folding doors. I knew right away that I wanted to replace the bifolds.

I ended up selecting some Valspar tintable chalkboard paint and had it tinted a light blue/gray color that I thought would work well for the bedroom color scheme.

Near the chalkboard paint there was a brochure with all the chalkboard colors in this particular line. However, the paint guru at the paint desk told me it seems to work to tint it any color from any paint sample, so I decided to give that a try.

It took 2 coats of paint to give me a beautiful chalky finish. Then I prepped the chalkboard surface by rubbing some chalk sideways all across the inside and outsides of the doors, and then wiped it clean.

The flat panel doors gave the perfect smooth surface for the chalkboard, and also a nice flat surface on the inside to store more of their classroom “essentials”.

Now I get to enjoy sneaking in every once in a while and catching my kiddos in classroom action. It’s the cutest thing ever!

Or they have enjoyed making their chore lists right on the doors, whether or not they actually get done. I love thinking outside the traditional chalkboard colors and surfaces to invite creativity into our home.
