This is part of a series of reviews on subscription boxes for kids.  To read why I am reviewing these boxes, go here.

I’m not even sure how to convey the awesome-ness found in Cooper and Kid products.  I am actually hoping the pictures will do most of the convincing.  Before I jump into my review – and the 7 points I like to address to help you decide if this is the best subscription box for your kids – I think a proper introduction to Cooper & Kid is needed.

It is unlike any subscription box I have seen.  The “Cooper Kit” is designed specifically for Dad’s and their kids, and the meaningful interaction that can happen with the help of this box.  I’m not going to say any type of caregiver can’t enjoy this box with their kids – but I am quite smitten with the idea which this company shares.  Their message (found in their product and on their website) is that fatherhood is important, vital and the modern father is or can be involved in their children’s life, more now than in any generation that has been.

And. This. Is. Wonderful.

Cooper and Kid, subscription box

Their motto is “Making Dads Cooler Than Moms”.  Ya, maybe I should be offended.  I am their MOM after all.  But to know my children have a father who is engaged in their lives (even if he is the cooler one) brings me all the pleasure in the world.

That being said, I recognize not every child is blessed with an active father in their lives.  Actually, mine passed away when I was a child.  But, hopefully there can always be a “father-figure” such as a brother, uncle, grandpa, neighbor, friend or teacher who’s influence for good can greatly impact a child’s life.

Whoa.  How did I get on that soap box?  Any way – sometimes my husband is at a loss on what to do with his children for “quality” time.  After he saw what was in this box, he went on and on about how great it was to have all these fun, “manly” dad activities to enjoy with his children.  No preparation, no trip to the store, and he had just as much fun (or more, I dare say) as his kids did playing in their Cooper Kit.

Once I found some alone time with the box, I discovered The Cooper Kit is funny, witty, whimsical, random and will have you smiling the whole time.

Let’s take a peek, shall we?

#1 – Area of Interest

You really should consider the interest of 2 persons to determine if this box is a fit for you.

1 – The Kids

  • Do they love hands on activities?  Do they love adventure?  Do they love learning?  Do they love making things?  Do they love to laugh?  Would quality time with their father be a wonderful blessing in their lives?

2 – The Father

  • Do they love hands on activities?  Do they love adventure?  Do they love learning?  Do they love making things?  Do they love to laugh?  Would quality time with their children be a wonderful blessing in their lives?

If you said yes to any of those . . . you’re going to love the Cooper Kit.

We were so generously given this box by Cooper and Kid, for the purpose of this review.  We received the themed box titled, “The Greatest Battle in the Realm” – where pigs and wolves duke it out.  Just take a look at this introduction waiting on the inside of the box lid.

That is just a taste of the humor and entertainment to be found in this kit.

No matter the gender of the children, there is loads of fun to be had inside this box!

 #2 – Age Range

The Cooper and Kid website states it is for Dad’s and their kids, ages 5-9.  While I believe it is very age appropriate for that range – I really think you could involve kids from 3 all the way up until 12 +.  My kids Daddy is just a grown up big kid anyway – and if he had a thrill from this box – I’m pretty sure any child would value this time spent with Dad.

#3 – Single or Multiple Children

Will this box work for just one child and their Dad, or for multiple children?

Yes and yes.

There was no way any of my children were going to be left out of this.  He cracked open that box and it was all hands on deck!

I loved how this particular box encouraged teamwork, a little friendly competition, and a “let’s-do-this-together” attitude.

cooper-and-kid-tidbits-10

Heaven knows siblings could use some of that frequently.  My husband stuck the 2 together that usually fight, and miracles happened!

If you are wanting a family activity, this will completely work.  If you are wanting quality one-on-one time, you will find it as well.

#4 – Length of Engagement

This subscription box was no doubt the largest one we received (see my other reviews, here).  There is so much to do in this box, you could spread it out for days or it could fill a Saturday of non-stop fun.

There is a complete activity guide (very professional looking) bound book, which takes you through each activity.  There are even 4 themed recipes, which look fantastic.

I simply took pictures of some of the starter activities, because I fully intend on locking myself in my room and letting the kids have their dad all to themselves without a “blogger mom” snapping pictures in their face.

But they all had some great laughs over the pig that shoots a ball when squeezed.

They thought is was particularly funny to aim it at my camera.  Here I was, just trying to capture some sweet moments . . .

. . . and the pig would stick me in the head.

I didn’t think it was very funny.

However, even after all the activities have been enjoyed together from the box, they will no doubt end up in the toy box to be played with for a long time (including a bedtime story).  I also found in the back of the activity guide, Cooper and Kid provides even more resources online associated with your box.  Once you log onto your account, you’ll find even more theme related activities to enjoy which they couldn’t fit into the box, as well as parenting links which are there to assist a father in his work.

You will definitely be getting your money’s worth from Cooper and Kid.

#5 – Assistance Needed

Sometimes you want a box for your kids to do in their own quiet time (which is absolutely OKAY!).  But, this is not one of those boxes.

cooper-and-kid-tidbits-13

That is not the purpose of Cooper and Kid.  This box is full assistance, dad on board, phone left with mom, help all the way.  Do not try it otherwise.

You’ll miss so much.

#6 – Cost

I would never say this box isn’t worth every penny.  However, this box does cost more penny’s than most.  (Rightfully so, in my humble opinion).

The Cooper Kit subscription works a little differently than most, where you would expect your package every month.   Rather, they send out their boxes every 3 months to equal 4 boxes a year.  You can explore their gift options and purchase details on Cooper and Kid website, but I will give you 2 price options here, to give you an idea.

Option 1 – Quarterly subscription, where you pay every quarter when you receive your box.

  • Price = $65 + $13 Shipping costs
  • Total = $78 per quarter (per box)

Option 2 – Yearly subscription, where you pay a full year up front for 4 boxes shipped every 3 months.

  • Price = $59 + $13 Shipping costs  ($72 per box)
  • Total = $288 per year

While it may seem like a downside to only get them every 3 months, I think that also opens them up for becoming great gifts and for special occasions.  Think Fathers Day, Christmas, Birthdays, Valentines Day, new baby in a home (sanity savor for mom!), summer vacations, spring break, camping trips . . . oh the possibilities!  The Cooper Kit would make such a unique and fun gift for any Dad or Grandpa or Father figure you know.

It is truly my honest and always frugal opinion, the quality and quantity of everything in this kit, will not leave you feeling ripped off.

#7 – Deals and Promotions

So, I asked . . . and they answered.

To save $10.00 on any Cooper and Kid purchase, use the promo code “SNUFFLEUPAGUS” at checkout.  (This deal cannot be used with any other offers and can only be used towards original purchases and not renewals).

They also have a great referral program, where if you refer a friend, they get $10 off their subscription and you get $30 off of your next renewal.  Sweet!

That completes my Cooper and Kid review!  If there is a Dad with kids in your life – head over to Cooper & Kid, and make someones day!
