We are making slow and steady progress on our new pole barn home.  Catch the details on our new living room couches and rug. More to come as this room comes together!

Living room updates | Couches and Rug

Words cannot express how pleased I am to finally see our living room come together.

After saving up money and waiting for 9 month for our couches to arrive, I don’t suppose there was a happier mama on the earth the day they came!

I snuggled my babies, read books, watched TV and soaked up every relaxing lost minute.

We also received our rug from my sponsor, Plush Rugs. Rolling out our new black vintage inspired rug was a moment of excitement!

Rolling out the rug

The room is far from done, but I wanted to share the process of bringing it together as much as I could. With the couches and rug now in place, I feel like I can more confidently make the rest of the design decisions for items like, accent chairs, curtains, coffee table and so forth.

Just the other day, I picked up a couple of side tables from an antique store.

A lot of furniture pieces and window treatments are on backorder so I have to keep waiting to finish it all up.  I’ve accepted that is just how it is these days and continue to work on other projects – which are not in short supply in a new unfinished home with a lot going on!

Let’s dive deeper into the details on our rug and couch!

OUR VINTAGE INSPIRED BLACK RUG

This beautiful classic reproduction rug is a work of art! You are welcome to click here and go read all about it.

I love that it is 100% wool, and has some distressing among the beautiful blacks, greens, and browns.  I was really nervous about getting a dark rug, but I find it really grounds the room and allows me to throw in dark accents without them looking out of place.

As I suspected, because it is 100% wool, it’s not necessarily a rug you’ll want to curl up and take a nap on.  But, once we get some accent chairs and a coffee table in here, there won’t be room to anyway.  I really just wanted something that looked natural and genuine, and the couches can bring in the cozy!

ALL ABOUT OUR SIX PENNY COUCHES

Now let’s chat about our new furniture! I searched long and hard for furniture with 100% linen slipcovers. I was delighted to discover Six Penny had this wonderful feature.

I’m a huge fan of slipcovers! They are beautiful and washable, which is both very important to me. The colors I picked are “poppy seed” and “jasmine rice”, both in the Medium Weight Linen.

This bigger sofa is the “Wyatt”, which unfortunately, they have just discontinued.

What really drew me to this one was the shape.  I love the single cushion and the fact that there are no separate back cushions.  The pillows can stay right in place with just enough sitting room.

And without the separate back cushions, it stays looking nice without any fluffing necessary!  It’s so wonderful!

It’s insanely comfortable and beautifully sophisticated.  The medium weight fabric has such beautiful texture and is extremely soft to the touch.

I’m still working on the perfect pillow combo, but what we have has worked great so far. I splurged a bit on this linen waffle throw from Etsy. It’s what my dreams are made of! The fray, the linen, the texture, the natural color . . . it’s an item I knew I would love and use around the home for years to come.

Where the Wyatt sofa is big and visually heavy, I wanted to find a sofa to compliment it without being so bulky.

The Gabriel was the ticket!

It feels slim, minimalistic and elegant in the room, which will be even more important as I begin to add other pieces.

Yet, it is still extremely comfortable and sits you up perfectly for a casual conversation.  Of course, it’s my daughters favorite lounge couch as well.  The single cushion is surprisingly thick and heavy, and holds its shape so good. The fabric is so lovely and textured.

I found the long lumbar pillow from Arhaus and this linen throw is from Serena and Lily, from another collaboration.

We truly could not be happier with the furniture.  It’s everything I hoped it would be!

I’d love to hear what you think of our progress so far. If you missed it, I have a post all about our design plans for this European Farmhouse Living room.

  1. Hi Cami,
I have the Elias sofa in my cart as I think it is the closest to the Wyatt. Is your Wyatt sofa 84″ long? Did you get down filled cushions or poly fill? Have you washed the slipcovers and, if so, how did they come out? Anything else you can share about these sofa’s would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Happy New Year!!

  2. Love these couches!! I’m looking at the Neva. If you had to pick one color to go with Benjamin Moore revere pewter (griege color)would you go with Jasmine Rice or Poppy Seed? I have it narrowed down to these two and can’t decide which! I have fabric samples and just can’t decide. Lol

  3. Hi Cami, l am kind of new to your blog and have enjoyed it so much. I feel that I go away with ideas from a lot of your post.
I love watching this room come together. I also like that you are adding the darker colors this time. Love the rug!! And the sofas. Can’t wait to see more.
I would love to know where you found the dark vase. I have been on the hunt for something like that, and when I opened your blog today, there it is!

  4. Everything looks so beautiful and sophisticated, yet comfortable! I was also going to ask about your smaller hanging light until I read the comments. I’m on the hunt now, lol!!! Thanks for sharing your life and projects with us. You’re an inspiration 😊

  5. Love your style Cami; family friendly, casual elegance factoring in durability & sustainability! You research your products so thoroughly, I admire that and your vision and patience for holding out for exactly what you want in combination with practicality. A difficult trifecta and yet you have nailed it! Always enjoy your posts and I always learn something (used your pantry organization post, which inspired me to organize my pantry this past spring.) Keep up the great work!

  6. I love your living room! I looked up the couch as I’m looking for one but unfortunately this company is out of my price range. Any recommendations for something similar? Wish I could just snap my fingers and make your magical style happen here!

  7. Cami, your new living room is simply lovely! The rug you chose is a wonderful piece to pull it all together. I haw to mention the adorable kitty peeking through the leaves…what a cutie.

    1. I agree Marlene. I was kinda nervous of it, because it was so out of my comfort zone. But it works wonderfully!! Thanks for stopping by again!

    1. Yes, they were! Still have a lot of little touches to do but I’m so happy with how it is coming together. Thank you so much!

  10. Hi Cami!

  11. Everything is coming along beautifully. Love the rug!!! I wish I needed a new one right now! You have such a good eye! We too live on a farm, and the dirt is real! You will be happy that you went with some darker colors! Maybe I missed it, looking back at the older post for your living room, but where did you find the smaller light fixture? I think it would be perfect for a space on our farmhouse. Thanks! Oh, and happy snuggling! I’m sure the kiddos are so happy!

    1. Thank you so much! I had to giggle. I always want a new rug ;). They can change up the room so easily, it’s fun to play around when you can. I hope I can love on this one for at least a few years ;). This farmhome and all the dirt has definitely changed a lot of my design decisions, but I’m having so much fun challenging myself with darker colors. The light fixture was an antique store find! I forgot to mention that! Thank you for stopping by!
