Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

We’ve got a lot of good stuff to cover today – so let’s break it down into 5 topics and avoid some brain damage.

1. First things first – Welcome to my SPRING HOME TOUR!!  Super excited to share it with you today and I truly hope you come away with some ideas for your own home.  That’s why I do this blog thing, after all.

2.  Second, this is only PART 1 of my spring home tour.  You can view PART 2, HERE.  Today I am sharing bits of Spring touches in our bedroom and bathroom with you.  No space in my home is safe from a seasonal refresh, and I don’t think yours should be either!

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

3.  Third thing to mention – I hope you’ll make it to the end of my post.  If you don’t, you’ll miss out on all the AMAZING Spring home tours my friends are sharing today.  And that would be a crying shame.

4.  Fourth – I want to offer a confession.  But I’ll save that for last 😉

5.  Finally – I’m not only sharing images and ideas from my Spring time home, buuuuuuut – I’ve also came up with 3 Steps to Seasonal Decorating – to ensure your seasonal decor flows well with your home, feels natural, and doesn’t leave you anxious to take it all down.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. Simple touches to help your home feel fresh and alive after a long winter.

Let’s talk about these 3 steps for a moment.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

These are honest-to-goodness, the 3 steps I consciously or subconsciously take every time I go to change a room.  Big or small changes – same steps.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

Step 1:  Choose a Theme

I’m not talking Winnie the Pooh or Super Hero kind of themes – but you need something to center your mind on.  And yes – try to slap a name on it!

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

You don’t have to go and make signs for every room that say, “Green Spring” or “The Year of the Dandelions” – just keep your vision in mind through each room and it will naturally flow well.

Can you guess what my theme for this Spring Home Tour is?

This quote should help – (found in a favorite book of mine with quotes from Gordon B. Hinckley, former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints).

My husband and I had a good chat about how we felt a Spring home could reflect us.  He decided he wanted the house to feel alive.  We’ve had so much sickness, and a bit of sorrow this winter.  We were ready to embrace life and the “beauties of nature”.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

We love Spring time with a passion – so our theme is “Come Alive”.  This theme reflects not only in our home decor, but also with some new goals and aspirations as well as some spiritual significance for us.  I knew I wanted to sprinkle each room with bits of flowers, greenery, and refreshing palates that signify new life.

Step 2:  Choose Colors

The hubs left this decision up to me – so I picked the colors that make me “Come Alive”.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

Just like a wedding, it really helps to choose specific colors when doing your seasonal decorating.  This also explains why I love to wash my home in white and neutrals for the basics.  Then I can easily change out my color schemes to suit each season or whim.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

I wasn’t too specific on EXACT colors, but I knew I wanted to embrace a cheerful blue and pink palate and knew I had the challenge of making sure that color combo didn’t look like a babies room.

The pinks and blues I chose have a bit of a gray undertone, rather than pastel.  Or I could call them cheerful colors rather than childish colors.  I wasn’t however, totally limited on only those 2 colors.  Anything that felt cheerful and uplifting, without feeling like Easter pastels, was fair game.

Pillows and throws are super easy to throw down in the colors you desire and can totally change the feel of a room.

The floral pillows I sewed myself.  I just walked the aisles of Joann’s until some fabric jumped out at me.  The velvet pillows are a bargain at World Market right now.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

I would caution to use seasonal color in moderation – but that is probably just preference.

If you have any questions about sources in this bedroom, I invite you to view my Master Bedroom Reveal post where I go in great detail where everything came from.

Let’s now head to my master bathroom, and talk about the last (and perhaps the most important) step to seasonal decorating.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

Step 3:  Choose Simplicity

Simplicity.  sigh.

I ache for it.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

I certainly don’t mean to knock anybody or any generation down – but have you ever been in a home that makes you feel suffocated with STUFF!?  Little knick-knacks or things you might need in every nook and cranny.  Perhaps it is your own home.  I won’t lie – some rooms in my home are like that.  They are the rooms only my besties and siblings have seen.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

But my favorite rooms are the ones we’ve cleared out and only put back the bare necessities.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

I did just share this Master Bathroom Makeover with you, but I wanted to talk about how adding just a few quick and SIMPLE seasonal items is so easy and affordable to do when you are not surrounded by clutter.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

Just add a touch of flowers here and there.

Pull in some colorful candles from the dollar store to brighten up a little spot.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

Don’t be afraid to use faux foliage in your decor.  It can still make a space feel alive, and it’s even better that you can’t kill it!

This time of year, I like to invest in some plants that can be enjoyed indoors for a time, and then planted outside when it warms up a bit.

In a bathroom or kitchen, bring in some new hand towels for the season, and call it good!

Or stitch a piece of lace or ribbon onto an otherwise boring towel.

Or if you are super O.C.D., swap out your clear soap for a seasonal colored soap that smells refreshing too.

All simple, simple things that help me “come alive”.

Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

I am confident that if you follow those 3 steps, you will find seasonal decorating more enjoyable and doable.  It’s easy to walk into a store for a few things and get swept away by all the dazzling things you think you need.  If you can manage to keep your theme, colors and simplicity in mind – you’ll keep your focus and as a result you’ll save more money, time and energy for the people in your life.  That is really how I “come alive”.

And now – as promised – a small confession.
Spring Home Tour by TIDBITS. 3 Steps to seasonal decorating to ensure your decor flows well with your home.

Decorating for Spring.

This is actually a new concept for me.

Besides a couple of random flowers here and there – I’ve never done it before.  My hubs thought I was crazy for suggesting the idea.

As it turns out – I think I enjoyed decorating for Spring more than Christmas!  The house feels so refreshed, and that means I feel refreshed.

I’d love to know if decorating for Spring is something you do and enjoy and if you have any tips to share!  Leave your kind thoughts in the comments below.

And don’t forget to fill your inspirational cup with all these other homes from talented bloggers opening their doors for you today.  All links below.

Decorating our homes and sharing them with you is a true labor of love, and I’d hate for you to miss what these gals have to share.  Big thanks goes to Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors for organizing this group.

I hope. 😉

Cami I loved your tour! Your tips are fantastic and I agree about the faux flowers. Mine were all faux as I just can’t keep the other ones lasting long enough usually =). Your bathroom is stunning and what a beautiful home – thank you for sharing.

Good to know you are not ashamed to decorate with faux as well 😉 My daily goal is usually to keep my 4 kids alive and plants don’t generally stand a chance. Haha! Thanks for leaving a comment! I always love to see your name.

I love your decorating style, Cami. Your headboard is amazing and I love the sweet little pillows! What type of flooring is in your bathroom? We’re re-doing ours pretty soon. And I have to agree with you … I prefer decorating for Spring over Christmas. 🙂
