Oh, how I have looked forward to this day! Isn’t it such a good feeling when you take on a large task, and finally come to completion?
Granted, I had hoped to accomplish our master bedroom makeover a couple of months ago – but such is life with 4 kids. And I am okay with that 😉
I don’t wan’t to be too wordy on this post – I’d rather leave it all up to the pictures. However – I do want to leave you with resources as we make our way through the room. Also, if you’ve been following along, you know there are many DIY tutorials from this room that I’ve already written, and I’ll insert those links throughout.
We are really so pleased with how it came together, and we feel we were able to create the relaxing space we hoped for. I hope it will provide some inspiration for you.
Let’s take another quick glance at how it looked before our makeover started. (P.S. It was the neglected room of the house for 2 years.)
First, we walked into too much stuff and clutter.
Then we got to see all the hand-me-down furniture and bedding (and laundry. Okay – the laundry still happens 😉 )
And the wall closet that we kind-of-almost-finished.
EEEEE! I know.
It is so nice to look back on those pictures and to know that those days are long gone. It is really not a large space, but by pulling out what we didn’t love, and just adding what was necessary and beautiful – it has become my absolute favorite space in our home.
My husband and I always pride ourselves in making things with our own two four hands or scoring great buys at thrift stores – and this room is certainly full of those things. However, I have been so very grateful to have had the support and confidence of 4 specific companies who have added very special touches throughout this room. They have been generous enough to provide these products (bonus perks of being a blogger), and I truly hope you will take the time to discover these wonderful companies.
Company #1: Blindsgalore.com
I wrote all the juicy details about our jute-like roller shades, in THIS previous post. These shades are absolutely wonderful, and I know I will enjoy them for many more years to come.
Company #2: Carmel Decor
They provided this lovely, texture-y, throw blanket and this A-MAZ-ING lamp.
Company #3: Linen Spa (affordable luxury bedding)
They provided a Bed-in-a-bag, which had the comforter I needed to make my reversible duvet cover, 2 pillows for my ruffle pillow shams, and microfiber (heavenly) sheets and pillowcases (which I used to make my lace pillowcases).
I might also mention, the best pillow I’ve ever slept on, HERE.
Company #4: Superior Custom Linens
I am obsessed with linen fabric – and Superior Custom Linens must have caught on to that when I made my linen duvet and pillows. They sent me 2 lovely custom made linen pillow covers – and I couldn’t be more pleased with the quality and look.
If you love the soft feel and look of linen fabric, you must see what they have available on their site. Holy smokes! I want one of everything!
Now let’s make our way through the small details of the room.
The nightstands came from antique stores, for about 30-40 dollars each. Before and after HERE, as well as painting details).
They are topped with thrift store treasures and flowers from the yard.
Also, an image from “the good old dating days”.
The dresser/desk was destined for the dump, until a neighbor asked if we wanted it. Heck ya! My husband worked wonders with it and all details and before/after found HERE.
Topped with the lamp and a plant that spoke to me while grocery shopping.
The mantel headboard is our pride and joy. The hubs worked some serious magic and was able to build it according to what we both hoped for. I’ve got lots and lots of details about this headboard (paint used, etc) HERE.
We are wanting to make plans and a tutorial for this headboard (due to popular request), but would need to make another to do so. If any of you would be interested in purchasing the extra headboard we make, please contact me at camitidbits at gmail dot com. We will discuss price together.
I topped the mantel with some thrifted scuffed up vases, an old window buried in an antique store, and this sweet little boat my husband made while he was playing around in his wood shop.
The chandelier was a splurge for me (because I deserved it) and is an off-the-shelf light fixture from Home Depot.
The curtain rod is a $6 dollar electrical conduit pipe we bought at Home Depot as well. We simply bent it and spray painted it and stopped it with finials. I made all 4 curtain panels from $30 worth of clearance fabric from Joann’s. I simply hemmed around and folded the top down and attached with THESE clips from Amazon.
The bench at the end of our bed was made from scraps from my husbands wood pile. I love it, and so does the 1 year old. He can now climb onto our bed all by himself.
My husband also made some wood boxes from old wood scraps to add to the top of our wall closet (which he also built). It adds some great storage for out of season clothes and other stuff.
These baskets on the sides hold socks and other clothing items that can be folded. They originally started as THESE cheapo baskets from Amazon, but I couldn’t stand to look at them any longer. After finding the most beautiful wood my husband could from his pile, he cut them in small strips and I fixed them to the front of the baskets. Tutorial for that HERE.
A much improved free update, if you ask me.
To the side of the closet, I was excited to find this black swivel hanging “thing” from Decor Steals, and I bought it right up. It comes in so handy for those clothes that you really want to throw on the floor – but look much better hanging off the ground. You know what I’m talking about, right?
Now I’ll give you the list of the links that take you to the details and tutorials for the bedding I made, and any other resources I can think of.
Gathered Bed Skirt from a Drop Cloth
Paint colors:
White Trim and woodworking is Super White by Benjamin Moore.
Soft blue/gray walls is Willow Springs by PPG Paints.
Finally, here is a complete list of the posts I wrote while planning the master bedroom makeover. It will take you through the inspiration images I found as well as DIY’s I hoped to complete and products I had in mind. Really fun to see how all of it came together while going through the stages of design.

Wow! It’s so bright! I love it!
I’m just looking at this post and can’t believe it’s from 4 years ago!! I just love it!
I wanted to ask where or how you got the chair cover for your chair in the room? It’s so pretty! Did you make it???
I was scrolling through your pics and thinking “I hope there will be a closeup of that amazing lamp!” and woops, there it was! Looks gorgeous and extravagant now. I need to get my hubby to accept, that it is indeed very important to rest in a place you’re feeling comfortable 😉
I love everything about your room except the curtains on the cabinet. I think it takes away from the room.
I really love white color and I love your ideas with room. It looks so sweet. Many thanks for sharing with us.
I’ve been dying to change up our very neglected master bedroom- your room is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!
Oh my gosh this is one of the most beautiful posts I’ve ever read! We’re at the same “almost there” stage that you were at and our taste and layout is SO similar, same wall of closets, same window area… I think you’ve inspired me to take a final crack at getting it done this winter. (Saw your feature over at Dream to Reality btw.) Nice to meet you!

This is gorgeous! It’s so true that the master bedroom is always the most neglected, last to be decorated. But this one is well worth the wait. I’m going pin-crazy on this whole post! So nice to meet you on the Weekend Retreat, and heading over to follow on Instagram…

Can’t tell you how much I LOVE this bedroom and especially the headboard/mantle! It’s gorgeous and something I have been trying to get my husband to work on for me since Spring! (Just not enough time…) Love it!
That is gorgeous! I can’t believe how pretty everything is, and you made it yourself! Amazing. Pinning this for future inspiration. 🙂

Sometimes I think I would like a colorful bedroom…and, then I see something like this. So perfect. Thank you for the reminder of what I will like for years, instead of me spending money on something I will like for a week! Truly love your home!
Absolutely beautiful! It looks so cozy and inviting. Love how bright it is too. Putting the strips of wood on the front of the baskets was such a great idea! So much cheaper than buying new ones and ti totally changed the look of the closet area.
Your support and kind words are always uplifting for me! Thank you dear!
Beautiful
Thank you much!
I love everything about this space with one exception…..I am not a fan of the curtain on the closet space….but that is just me…..You and your hubby have done such an amazing job of putting a beautiful home together for you and your children,,,ENJOY…=]
Thank you so much for your thoughts! I always appreciate constructive criticism 😉 And actually, I couldn’t agree with you more. I saw an image on pinterest with a similar closet and it had a curtain. I thought I would like it but it has been bugging me for some time. I’ve had my eyes open for something really unique like some old doors with chippy paint. I almost had my husband just make more doors, but I’m hoping to find that something special which will take time. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
Well Done! Your bedroom is so beautiful! You have inspired me to make a few changes to mine.

Thank you Emily! I feel quite proud if I’ve inspired that brilliant mind of yours!
You have created a space which is truly a retreat and absolutely beautiful!! Thank you so much for sharing all of the makeover info and links – it is very much appreciated. It really irks me when I follow along with a bloggers reno and then they never mention paint color, links etc, and I have to email them for the details. Great post and fantastic bedroom makeover – CONGRATS on a really beautiful room, you both should be very proud.
Thank you Liz! What sweet comments! I think it saves us all extra headache to have all the info available right there in the post. I am so glad it was helpful for you.
Such a beautiful room! I’m inspired. Thanks for sharing! P.S. If you had to guess at the total cost of the remodel, what would you say?
If I don’t count the free products from blogging promotion (blinds, lamp, bedding, etc) we guessed around $800. Most of the cost went to the wood for the headboard and wall closet. Then paint and fabric would be the other biggest expenses. All the little touches in a space I usually find at thrift stores and such. Thank you for your sweet words!
Everything is gorgeous! Come to South Georgia and I will babysit while you do my room ?
Now that sounds like heaven! I should hire out my services for babysitting, huh? Haha!
Cami, it truly is a calm and serene space. Your headboard is still my favorite feature of the room – just gorgeous! I was floored when you said the wood boxes on your side shelves were wood pieces attached to the baskets you already had! Genius upgrade! They look so much better than the fabric. Congrats on finishing your beautiful space. I know you will enjoy it for a long time.
Hugs,
Cecilia

My sweet and faithful comment-er – thank you so very much! I do have to agree. The headboard makes the space. It is a treasure.
Y’all did a great job with this makeover. You have most definitely inspired me! I need to make some duvet covers for our guest room and your well written tutorial has inspired me. You also showed me I can update our guest room without breaking the bank. I have already been thrift store shopping and scooped up a few cool pieces.
That is so sweet of you to say Cheryl! I do hope my tutorials can be helpful – and yay for thrift store shopping!
Beautiful! Let me grab my best princess gown and I’ll be over for a sleepover ?
The perfect reply, Marci. So, princess slumber party, Cami? Cheers, Ardith
P.S. Cami, your bedroom is drop dead gorgeous! You and your husband are talented indeed.
Haha! Come on over ladies! Let me kick Kevin out first. That could be awkward 😉
