Take the tour inside our old fashioned Christmas living room, inspired by a Little Women Christmas! You’ll see lots of handmade items, natural elements, pretty little bows and loads of fresh greenery.
Welcome to my old fashioned Christmas home tour in our living room! After we finished up our fireplace mantel makeover, I finally felt like I could get this space looking like I had hoped for Christmas.
After all, those handmade stockings certainly deserved a pretty spot to hang!
I’d like to just take you through each little view of this space and share any details, sources and inspiration with you that helped me pull this space together just in time for Christmas.
I typically like to share my tours much earlier for you, in case I have any good ideas that might inspire your own Holiday decorating. However, I found myself wanting to take it a bit slower this year, and enjoy the process with my kids a little more.
It was so much fun as they helped me find inspiration while watching “Little Women” and making things to sprinkle around the room for me.
My oldest daughter spent hours making these craft paper stars and watching Christmas movies. She loved it and I loved the fruits of her labors! We got this idea when we saw little paper stars resting on the mantel in the 1990’s film version of Little Women.
(Buy these Little Women books here, here and here.)
The kids sat with me for 2 days Christmas crafting while I sewed up the perfect little linen stockings that I’ve dreamt of making for a long time.
We all enjoyed carefully selecting Christmas items from our totes that fit the vision and meant the most to us as a family. Our Nativity sets were certainly among those items!
We thoroughly enjoyed an evening learning together how to make our own hand dipped beeswax taper candles full of old world charm.
The reminder of that special night is sprinkled around our home, and a memory we will all treasure.
We all went together into the mountains to cut down our Christmas trees. We got a tiny one for our living room, to rest on our 100 year old piano. The big tree went down the hallway, as you may have seen in this post.
Then the kids mostly watched as I sprinkled fresh cedar garland and linen ribbon bows in as many places as I could manage – just like I saw on Little Women.
It’s truly been a magical season for our family, and I’m glad I took the time to enjoy it. Hopefully you’ll come away with some ideas for your home for next year!
We decided to move our piano into the living room and it has proved a wonderful decision. My kids have gotten quite good at their piano, and it fills my heart with joy listening to them play Christmas songs for us all to hear. It also served as a wonderful place to add so many decorations that keep our heart focused on the Savior this Christmas.
For the round coffee table, I simply placed on it a fresh wreath from the market and added some fresh flowers arranged inside a piece of pottery in the center of the wreath. There are so many things you can add inside a wreath for a beautiful centerpiece! I love to do a bowls of nuts like last year or a bowl of oranges is pretty too.
I opted to make a linen throw blanket out of my favorite Christmas color – this dark burgundy red. I also covered our long pillow with some green linen. They look so very festive together, and I like how the typically bold Christmas colors are a bit muted – giving it that perfect old fashioned look.
You’ll see I used the same color scheme in my stockings as well! I hope to stock my linen shop with stockings next year so I wanted to play with a few designs I had in mind. I machine quilted, hand quilted and made some without quilting to get a variety of looks.
I had a couple of velvet stockings from last year I also mixed in, which were the perfect colors as well. But let me know what stocking is your favorite, so I can get an idea of what I should create for my shop! I was completely in my best creative zone making these linen stockings! Is it something you would buy? Let me know!
To the mantel, I also tucked in a lot of fresh cedar garland, oranges, pomegranates, more paper stars and our hand dipped candles. It’s so charming!
But perhaps my favorite addition to the mantel were these old world looking metal stars that a most gracious blog reader and Instagram follower sent me last year. It was the most delightful surprise and thoughtful gesture.
She sent 6 for each member of my family and wrapped them each in their own handmade linen bag. It made me sob like a little baby! I have been anxious to use these for Christmas for an entire year! She said her sister had lived in Mexico and she had her make them for me. I don’t recall ever being so touched by a complete stranger to me! She is now a dear dear friend and I hope to hug her in real life someday.
They each hold a sweet picture I took of each of the kids in our “Little Women” white jammies from our yearly photo shoot – which I do entirely for my own satisfaction, much to their collective torture (wink).
I will truly treasure these metal stars that will forever remind me of the great goodness of people in this world.
As for the other linens in the room, I sprinkled more greens, deep reds and oatmeals to bring it all together.
There is a little peak of the kitchen, which is coming up next!
I love how it all turned out, and for the first Christmas in a long time – I’m not sure I want to take it all down!
Thank you so much for joining me today for this tour of our old fashioned Christmas living room! I hope you’ve enjoyed it and I would love to hear what part was most inspiring to you.
Be sure to check out the other spaces in our home as I share them, and I’ll have a collective video tour coming soon!
Dear Cami,
thank your for sharing these wonderful ideas and images with us- you are very inspiring!
Would you be so kind to tell where you got the beautiful picture over the mantle of people dancing around the chrismastree? I searched high and low for it on all of yor pinterest boards, etsy… and can’t seem to find it. The image is touching in a very light hearted way. A wonderful find of yours.
Thank you in advance and a happy holiday!

Oh Cami! How beautiful it all is. I am in love with the green and red linen. They are the perfect colors. I do love the stockings but it all looks wonderful.
Blessings, Cecilia
I love The Little Women theme, that’s one of my favorite. Your home is beautiful and am always anxious to see what you do in it and you have a wonderful family.
Just beautiful!
Cami, this has to be the coziest and and adorable Christmas livingroom I have ever seen. Truly. I love the colors and textures but there’s something I can’t put my finger on. It’s lush yet not crowded with things. And maybe because of your mangers all points to the peace and joy of this season instead of the chaos so many of us feel right now.
I love that this thoughtful peek into your beautiful Christmas season centered more on family and values than on consumerism & passing trends. Hard to pull off these days! The paper stars caught my eye immediately, ao beautiful & different.
I love everything about this! I was wondering how you attached the greenery to the arch. That’s something I want to try next year but haven’t figured out how to hang them to make them sturdy but without damaging the wall.
