DIY Names of Christ Clay Ornament Or Advent Idea

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

Looking for a beautiful Christ centered ornament or advent idea?  I’ve got a good one for you today! I’ll show you how to make these 25 names of Christ clay ornaments which you can use in many ways for your Christmas gifting or decor.  40 Names of Christ Printable included!

You might also like to use this idea to make personalized clay gift tags for your family and friends.  Let me show you this fun stamped clay idea and then you take it from there!

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

I really wanted a way to focus our hearts more on Christ this Christmas season. Instead of putting candy in our stocking countdown/advent, I am going to put in these beautiful stamped clay ornaments.

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

I shaped 25 air dry clay gift tags, and then on each tag I stamped a name of Christ found in scripture. As we countdown to Christmas all December, my kids will pull a tag out and then they can hang it on the Christmas tree as an ornament.

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

Each night as we pick a “Name of Christ” tag, we will discuss the meaning and what significance it plays in our life. There might also be videos or stories that relate to each name that we can share with the kiddos.

I hope you love this idea, but there are even more ways you can use a stamped gift tag or even the free printable Names of Christ that I will provide for you.

OTHER WAYS TO USE THIS IDEA

  • Stamp the name of a friend or family member into the clay gift tag, and include it on their package. I think that makes for a really sweet personalized ornament later on.
  • Cut out each name in the printable and just add the slip of paper into your countdown or advent. This is great if you don’t want to or have time to make the clay tags.
  • Make them all at once and hang them on a Christ centered Christmas tree.
  • Include them as neighbor/co-worker gifts.

DECORATIVE OPTIONS FOR YOUR STAMPED TAGS

You can see I left my tags all white (I love the simplicity)! But here are some ideas if you need more color or variety.

  • Paint them!
  • Seal them with a glossy sealer or epoxy
  • Use a gold or silver accent inside the lettering to make it stand out more
  • Do different shapes like circle tags

I hung my tags with my linen ribbon that is in my TIDBITS & Company shop. I love the naturalistic vibe of the linen with the clay like texture in the tags.

Let’s get started!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR STAMPED CLAY TAGS

  • Air Dry Clay
    • I love using this DAS brand, but the Crayola brand would work well for this project too. It would be lighter and fluffier.
  • Lettering Stamps
    • I found this awesome set that has nice deep letters and several of each so you can click them together and spell the words.
  • Scraper or cutting tool (I used a pastry cutter)
  • Straw
  • Rolling Pin of sorts
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie Sheet

HOW TO MAKE CLAY GIFT TAGS

First roll out a handful of clay to the thickness that you would like.

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

Use your cutting tool to cut out a simple gift tag shape. If you happened to have a cookie cutter shaped how you want, that would totally work too. I really wanted a variety of imperfect beauty in my gift tags, so I just winged it.

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

Put together you stamp in the words you want, and gently stamp into the clay.

Jesus Christ Ornament Idea

Lay them on a cookie sheet to air dry – words up first. After 12 hours you will want to rotate them and let the back side dry another 12 hours or so.

Once they are dry, you can lightly sand them to smooth out the edges. This makes a big difference!

At this point you can paint them, seal them, highlight them . . . whatever you wish! I loved mine simply white.

Let me know if you give this idea a try! I’d love to see them!

OTHER WAYS TO FOCUS ON CHRIST THIS CHRISTMAS

  1. Join me in this #lighttheworld invitation that my church puts out every December. I love the very simple invitations to do good that it provides. I’ll be putting a slip of paper in our Advent to invite the kids to join me each day to do a little good in the world.
  2. Make these sweet ornaments that we made a long time ago. We still love them!
  3. We’ve enjoyed this Christ centered countdown in years past.

I always loved your blog in the past, however, ads have increased dramatically, making it almost impossible to get to the content. I realize this is how bloggers make money, and I totally get that. I purposely try to click them off whenever possible without reading them, though. It’s like whack-a-mole! I wish there were a better way to set up blogs without the visual clutter of constant ads!!

I so appreciate your comment! We don’t actually see what every other user would see, since sometimes settings are set up differently. Your feedback is so helpful so I can go and talk to my ad company. I work hard on my content and want you to be able to enjoy it. Thanks!

How wonderful is this….and what a blessing you and your husband are giving your children. I’ve been doing the same with wanting to make it more about Jesus and the true reason for the season.. I may have to add this into my do’s. Thank you again.

I love this idea! how many blocks of the clay did it take to make the 25 names you did?

Sorry I forgot to mention that! One block got me all 25 – but it was close! Don’t go too big or too thick if you want to stick with one.
