Check out the charm of these cottage style homes! A little design inspiration can go a long way in helping you create a home that you’ll love.

There are many things I miss about our old pole barn home. We designed, built and finished that house from the ground up. Lots of good memories! It’ll always have a special place in my heart.
I love our new home, the Lavender Blue Cottage, too. Each day we work on this home and each day this cottage becomes a little dearer to me.
It got me thinking about what makes a house a cottage. Why do we all love a quint, darling cottage?
I think it’s got something to do with old-fashioned charm, story book elements, natural materials and a feel of coziness that is unique to cottages.
Because I’m currently obsessed with cottages, and because I’m always on the hunt for design inspiration, I decided to collect images of some beautiful cottage style homes. I hope you’ll enjoy these as much as I do!

I spied this beauty over at Homedit.com. It even has a white picket fence! And that red front door is an adorable accent for this cottage-style house.

This brick cottage, with its gable roofs and dormer windows, reminds me of some the architectural elements here at the Lavender Blue Cottage. Sweet and cozy! Spied at Homystyle.

The texture of those wood shingles and stone walls are gorgeous! It adds so much visual interest to this lovely home by Atlanta Homes.

8) English Country Cottage
No list of cottages would be complete without a thatched roof entry. Bonus points for the vines and flowers! England is famous for this traditional style of cottage homes. See it at MyDomaine.

I’d love to see the floor plan of this cozy home found on Pinterest! Cottage house plans often feature a smaller square foot and tons of comfort.

12) Dramatic Roof Architecture
Cottage style homes don’t have to be covered in vines, but I’m not mad that this one from Better Homes and Gardens is. The architecture is unique it features lovely flower beds, one of the common characteristics of cottage homes.

13) Natural Surroundings
I could happily live in this cozy cottage in the woods forever. Especially if it was in a perpetual state of Fall like this!
Exteriors covered with natural materials, chimneys and fireplaces are cottage style home standards. See it at Cottage Life!

14) Beach Cottage
The Cottage Journal shared with dreamy beach cottage with an open floor plan. I can tell this living space packs a lot of function into relatively little square feet. Adorable!

I agree number 13 has my vote. Anything where there are no people is a good place for me, I do live rurally and we drive into town to do our shopping when needed. be well always.
Sweet collection of cottages. The Lavender Blue Cottage is among my favs!
Surprisingly, I’m wondering if you may consider painting the shudders a lighter color?
Be blessed with the opportunity to reno your dreamy cottage which you had hoped for, for so very long. Even though reno’s are HARD, take heart you are building memories, creating beauty, sharing inspiration and clever ideas with thousands and making a living while doing so.
