Now, it’s porch time!

Since we just finished our porch, it seems only fitting that we get it spruced up with some lovely fall-themed front porch decor. After all, we’ll soon be welcoming trick-or-treaters for Halloween and house guests for Thanksgiving. We want to add a little curb appeal for our visitors to enjoy!

Decorating for fall outdoors is a favorite on mine. Ok, all of fall is a favorite of mine. I’ve been decorating my front porches for years.

Remember when I decorated my neighbors porch with sage green? Or that time I decorated our deck for fall? I still love the pumpkin topiaries I used in this fall home tour. More recently, I decorated our current porch and shared 5 tips for fall front porch decorating.

There’s no reason to limit your cozy fall decor to the inside of the house. Let’s make that front porch or patio a welcoming space for your family and guests. I’ll show you what I did this year and share a few ideas to help you start your own decorating for fall outdoors.

Decorating for Fall with What You’ve Got

We grew a lot of pumpkins this year. We grow the orange pumpkins to make our own pumpkin puree and the mini and heirloom pumpkins for decoration. Because of this, it was easy to place some gorgeous pumpkins around our porch to use as outdoor decor. No craft project needed!

If you’ve got something laying around, think about how you could use it to decorate for fall. I think some leftover burlap would make a great diy table runner for the porch. And those Christmas lanterns and candles? Those would look great arranged with some pumpkins or gourds for an outdoor centerpiece.

Choosing an Outdoor Fall Decor Color Scheme

Our abundance of orange pumpkins inspired our outdoor color palette. I chose to use accents of orange and navy blue to decorate our outdoor space for fall. It’s nice to have a pop of seasonal color in spaces that otherwise contain a lot of neutrals.

I love the way those orange pumpkins pop against our white siding.

It doesn’t take much color to add seasonal charm to a space. Small touches are often all you need.

Cozy Fall Blankets for Outdoors

I was able to add a couple of throw blankets to our porch for the fall season. A blue gingham blanket for our glider and a thrifted navy blue plaid blanket for the porch swing. They look great with the orange pumpkins out here and, of course, add lots of cozy charm.

Some cushions or a throw blanket can really make your outdoor spaces feel more inviting. They are a great way to add color and texture as well.

Speaking of outdoor pillows, if you want to add some new fall decor to your porch, you can check out my tutorial for making metallic fall pillows. Those were so fun to make!

Natural Elements as Fall Decor

Next to my front door, I have a small table with a couple of chairs. I placed one of our gorgeous heirloom pumpkins on the table to decorate the space. It’s so simple and I love the way that it looks here.

I also have an accordion hanger above the table that I use to hang wicker baskets with herbs or field clippings. This would also be a great place for a fall wreath or some cut branches with autumn leaves.

Natural elements look fantastic in fall decor! If you have hay bales, corn stalks or some beautiful fall foliage around you, these can be a great way to decorate for fall outdoors.

Outdoor Planters with Fall Decor

On both sides of our front door entrance, we have large pots with evergreens in them. At this time of year I like to ring those evergreens with small white pumpkins. When winter rolls around, I’ll probably switch those pumpkins out for some pine cones. It’s a really easy way to transition our porch decor through the seasons.

If you have outdoor planters, you don’t have to put them away once the summer flowers are gone. Try an evergreen with seasonal touches. When spring arrives, we plan to plant those evergreens in our yard to enjoy for years to come.

Decorative Storage Displays

The last thing I did to decorate my porch for fall was to make a decorative storage pumpkin display. We grew so many pumpkins this year that I needed a place to keep them. I grabbed our rolling display cart and decided that it could double as fall porch decor.

If you’re in a similar situation, embrace it! I love using decorative storage solutions like cute baskets for trash cans in my shared home office or decorative glass jars to store baking ingredients in my kitchen. We all have things to store, so have some fun with it!

  1. The front porch looks great! Would like to see it with the lights on at dusk/night. Maybe Fall or for the Christmas season.
