I had to resist the urge to go overboard or make any major purchases too specific to fall decor.
And, if I am being honest, I don’t see myself getting too invested in any seasonal or Holiday decor this year, because we just have too many unfinished spaces to finish in our new home.
It’s all about priorities, right?
However, my kids were reminiscing the other day about how in our old home, they would go to school and come home to all new fall decorations and they just loved the feeling.
How do I make my house cozy for fall?
So, in an effort to make something feel somewhat normal around here, I swapped out a few home decor pieces to surprise them. Here are 5 ideas for you!
COZY FALL DECOR IDEA #1: Art
Swapping out some art for something that felt a little more warm and cozy was pretty easy! It required no new nails in the walls because we have the frame TV that displays art beautifully when it’s removed from the wall.
I cruised around one of my favorite online shops for affordable vintage art. It’s called Vintage Supply. I about gasped when I saw this piece called “pot and kettle”.
I adore the warm colors, the patina, and the simplicity of the piece. I was going in for a piece with changing Fall landscapes but this one sang to my soul right now.
Maybe the landscape will come later once our own trees start drastically changing. But for now, this one felt perfect.
COZY FALL DECOR IDEA #2: Firewood
I snagged some birch logs from Lowes the other day and propped some piles inside our faux mantel and inside this old crate I picked up antiquing.
I think it helps this focal point area feel extra cozy.
So whether or not you have a wood-burning stove or you are like me and just plan on faking it till you make it, propping some logs somewhere is a fun idea.
COZY FALL DECOR IDEA #3: Outdoor Clippings and Seasonal Florals
The fall season is the best time for clipping foliage from outside for the inside of your home. No other time of year can you get away with displaying some dead crispy weeds. I wandered outside and found some to add to my end tables.
I also couldn’t resist picking up some Fall mums while at Lowes and putting them in my big old copper pot for a centerpiece on our coffee table.
I got this idea from watching my sweet friend Karianne from Thistlewood Farm use a blooming plant for her centerpiece. It’s a great idea if you want something that lasts longer than fresh cut flowers.
I imagine this plant will last a few weeks where the fresh cut has about a week life span. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some fresh cut flowers, but I love the idea of having something last a little longer too so I am going to give these mums a try.
COZY FALL DECOR IDEA #4: Warmer Toned Blankets and Pillows
I love linens in any shape or form. But I JUST got our new throw blankets and pillow covers for our living room, like you might have seen in my post all about decorating a round coffee table, and I am loving them so much that I’m not ready to put them away. Most of them are from the shop, Amethyst Home.
But I actually think the tones already work so great for Fall, because they are warm, cozy, textured and so lovely. I did dig in my stash for this brown gauzy throw I bought last Fall, and it’s perfect for propping behind this new rocking chair we got.
COZY FALL DECOR IDEA #5: Fall Wreaths
So, we’ve been doing it for centuries, but a good seasonal wreath just feels right about any time of the year.
I found these cute Fall ones while I was at Joann’s the other day, and I thought they would look really fun on our vintage blanket hutch I painted.
I hung them with some linen ribbon that I ripped and cut.
I hope you enjoyed these early fall decor ideas and inspired you to take an afternoon and cozy up your home for early fall.
Once the pumpkins come in, I’m sure I’ll start sprinkling those around as well. I’d love to hear which idea was your favorite. Also, if you want to smell fall as well as feel it, liven up the scent in your home with this fall room spray!
