“Kids Being Kids” Photo Challange

January 12, 2016 • Photography

Each year I try to come up with a project or theme to stretch my photography skills and document my family life at the same time.

Last year was the year of trying to enjoy the mess of childhood, in my “Kids Live Here” challenge.  I really loved the challenge of trying to see the fleeting beauty of the mess around a home filled with kids.

This year, I’ve decided to just try to capture more of my “kids being kids”.  No asking them to pose.  No asking for smiles.  No wiping their faces or smoothing their hair before I freeze time.

It’s really the images of my kids as they are, that fill my heart with joy.

I would love to invite you to take part of this challenge with me!  Who’s up for it?!

Don’t feel like you need to have a fancy camera or editing software to enjoy this project.  Don’t feel like you need to have a perfectly staged background to capture your children.  Just be sure you have a camera or your phone camera handy for when your kids do something that defines them and you want to remember forever.

I’ll be sharing mine now and again through social media with the hashtag #kidsbeingkids, and would love to have you do the same.  Be sure to tag me so I can see what you’ve been up to!

In fact, I set up a Facebook group for us to share our images with each other.  If you would like to be a part of that, go HERE and send me a request.  I would love to have you!

I glanced through my 2015 pictures and found some images through the year that represent what I want to capture more of.

I hope these images make you smile and strive to see the beauty of your kids being kids.

Awww, your children are adorable. I wish mine were still little and at home so I could join in. Guess I’ll have to wait for my someday grandchildren. (Wonder if my twenty somethings would let me capture them…of course they’d have to be around lol). Great project and one to cherish when they are grown!
