Clean movies master list! Enjoy this organized list of wholesome, family-friendly movies. Save this reference for your movie nights and check back often for frequent updates!

A family laughs while watching movies together

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about how important it is to have good choices when it comes to the media our families consume. There are a lot of negative influences out there – sexuality, profanity, violence, vulgarity. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming just trying to find a good clean movie to watch!

I’m always searching for movies that are wholesome, uplifting, family-friendly and that teach good lessons. That’s why I created this master list of clean family movies. It goes along with my other recent list of wholesome, uplifting and clean TV shows.

Both of these lists are meant to be resources that you can turn to next time you’re planning a fun family movie night – or to enjoy one for yourself! Most of the recommendations on this list come from my own experience, but a few are from trusted friends and other home school moms with similar viewpoints.

I plan to update both of these lists frequently, so check back often for updates!

How is this List of Clean Movies Organized?

I’ve arranged this list of clean movies by genre (drama, comedy, fantasy, etc.). Within those genre categories, I included movie information in the following order:

  • The movie title
  • The year the movie was released
  • My opinion on the best age range for the show (all kids, younger kids, older kids or adults)
  • The movies Motion Picture Association rating

Keep in mind that just because I may label something as “all kids” doesn’t meant that adults won’t enjoy it as well. I really like watching lots of these movies with my younger kids!

Additionally, if it is labeled adults – they are still clean movies, but I feel like the content theme may not be suited for kids, or there may be a scene or two that would be difficult for kids to process. There may also be very mild offensive content in them, so please check parent guides whenever possible.

Important Things to Keep in Mind About Clean Movies

Terms like “wholesome” and “clean” are relative. I try to be selective and use my best judgement when deciding on appropriate moviess, but my standards may be different from yours.

Please use your own judgement when deciding what media is good for yourself and your family. However, it might be worth noting that I am highly sensitive, so you’ll likely find my list erroring on the safe side.

Do Your Own Research

Parent guides can be a great tool for helping you decide on media for your family. You can check out Common Sense Media, IMDB, or Kids in Mind for parent guides and details on the movies you’re interested in watching.

Discuss Important Themes with Your Family

Due to the changing times, lots of today’s media is more crass than it used to be. Because of this, you’ll find a lot of classics and older movies on this list. Many of them are great and can still be enjoyed today! However, there are some classic movies that aren’t politically correct by today’s standards.

Remember to do your research so you can discuss with your family or avoid any themes that you don’t like.

Where to Watch These Clean Movies

Here are some examples of streaming services that offer clean movies. Please keep in mind that not all of these services are dedicated to family-friendly movies, but you may find options for clean content in their selections.

Filtering Services for Movies

Some people like to use filtering services to make their screen time more family-friendly. If you’re interested in trying a filtering service, there are a few to choose from.

You may also have parental controls on your television or other devices that allow you to make user profiles and set boundaries for what type of content is available on those profiles. Safe Search Kids has some good information about how to do this.

More Ideas for Clean TV Shows and Movies

I hope this movie list will help give you some good inspiration for clean movies that are wholesome, uplifting and worth watching. Make sure to save this list so you can reference it often. Also, make sure that you check back regularly to see new updates and additions!

  1. Thanks so much for this list! My husband and I are super picky about movies especially with our kids. The two we’ve loved that aren’t on there are Mary Poppins and Second Hand Lions.

  2. Thanks for this awesome list! During the COVID lockdown we started having a family movie night once a week, and we’ve kept up the tradition since then. Sometimes it can be hard to find clean movies we haven’t seen yet. One of our favorites was The Court Jester with Danny Kaye, it’s hilarious! An oldie but a goodie. When last I looked it was available on Prime Video. Tonight we are watching Evan Almighty. I’m so glad your list reminded me! My kids still haven’t seen it and my son is obsessed with Noah, and elephants 😊

  3. Some that we love are
    Like Arrows
    Faith Hope and Love
    The English Game
    Change in the Air
    This Beautiful Fantastic

  4. Hi Cami , thank you for the movie recommendations. Little Women , one of my favorites, along with your Christmas Video Little Women tree and house post you did with your family from the past you shared. I and my kids and grandkids love the movie Hook; with Robin Williams, so good and pretty clean. Drags a little in beginning but so so good and great message! Also the Series and shows from Focus on the Family called Adventures in Odyssey, we watched and listened to on Radio and DVD, etc. Hope you check them out. Thank you again

  5. Maybe I overlooked it, I didn’t see one on your list that might be consideration. Beyond the Mask is a favorite of ours!

  6. Thanks for the list!
Additions: ‘David Copperfield’ starring Sally Field
    ‘Nicholas Nickelby’ starring James D’Arcy
‘Second Hand Lions’ starring Robert Duval This is a favorite. Once you have seen it, you all will be yelling “Go on, Hubb” every time a family member does something great!
Also, ‘Mansfield Park’ starring Billie Piper.
    Thank you!

    1. You mentioned some I forgot about! Thank you! I’ll watch and then add them to the list for others. Very thankful to you!
