The Top 10 Clean Feel Good TV Shows to Watch on Amazon Prime

Is there anything quite as nice as curling up to a good movie on a cold and blistery winter day?

What’s even better, is when you can find a TV show to binge watch and let the cares of the world slip away.

I’m back today to share another round-up of my favorite flicks.  These posts are always TIDBITS reader favorites around here, and I feel it is my duty to watch and share 😉

We are spicing things up this go around by venturing out of Netflix and into the wonderful world of Amazon Prime.  I suspect most of you already have this available, but if not, you can sign up for a free trial by clicking the banner below.  You’ll then be able to watch these movies through online streaming at no cost for 30 days.

I hope you’ll find hours of entertainment with my top 10 clean feel-good TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime.

The Top 10 Clean Feel-Good TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime.

Before we get started, I have a few disclaimers I’d like to add.

Disclaimer #1

“Clean” and “Feel Good” is of course relative.  What I may view as clean may possibly offend you.  What you view as clean might possibly make me cringe.  Get the point?  Having said that, I’ll explain myself.  All of these shows, with the exception of 1, are rated TV-PG or TV-G.  Though, I’ve learned that ratings are not always what they seem.  This list below consists of series of TV shows that made me feel good to watch.

They have wonderful messages, intriguing stories, and are not saturated with disturbing violence, crude language, and graphic immoral scenes.  Some are so wonderful I wouldn’t hesitate to let even my toddlers watch with me.  Some have adult content that would not be appropriate for kids.  Many of them are from BBC, because I often applaud the British for making quality drama shows without throwing in so much filth.

However, those BBC shows often allude to scandal and immorality, but they don’t show graphic scenes that would make me feel embarrassed if my husband saw what I was watching – know what I mean.  If you are a fan of Downton Abbey, and could tolerate the scandal found in that show, the shows recommended below are very similar.

Disclaimer #2

All opinions of these shows are my own, and are not sponsored opinions by any means.

Disclaimer #3

I try to limit myself to movie watching only if I’m running on the treadmill or it is a weekend.  Just had to say that, lest you thought I only sat on the couch and watched TV all the time.

Disclaimer #4

Depending on the time of your viewing of this post, some of these movies may have been removed from Amazon Prime.  I will leave my list up, in hopes you can find a way to watch these wonderful shows somewhere else.

Please feel free to share this post with your friends!  And don’t forget to check out my other Movie and TV show recommendations!

#1 Lark Rise to Candleford

Lark Rise to Candleford

This one comes tippy top of my list because it is possibly the most heart warming, wonderful, and thought provoking show I’ve ever seen.  I wish so badly there were more shows like this one.  It is very clean, charming, and actually comes to an extremely happy ending.  I should know, I watched the last five minutes 6 times in a row.  If you don’t know what to watch, start with this one – without question.

#2 Poldark

Poldark

No doubt you’ve heard of this one, and no doubt a Masterpiece classic.  I even managed to get my husband hooked and he listened to all the books on tape after watching the show.  It is very much a breathtaking drama mixed with a charming Cinderella type story.  And for the sake of stating the obvious . . . Poldark is such a dreamboat!  There is hints at scandal and a small amount of violence in this show.  Still rated TV-PG, though I would be very careful about letting kids see this without your viewing.

#3 Dr. Quinn the Medicine Woman

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman

Can you believe this whole series is up for grabs on Amazon Prime!  Oh Happy Day!!  It’s an oldie, but such a goodie!  Watch it with the whole family or soak it in all by yourself.  I’ll never forget watching this show at my Grandma’s as a little girl and loving it.  Re-watching it as an adult was even better.

#4 Emma

Emma

The next 3 are venturing into the world of Jane Austen.  I think being familiar with her stories is sort of a rite of passage.  Emma is a short series, but delightful nonetheless.

#5 Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice

While there have been many many versions of this classic story come to pass, this is a nicely done BBC rendition.  It’s nice to get a bit more of the story line in a TV series.

#6 Austentatious

Austentatious

A modern spin on Jane Austen, and a bit quarky, I still found myself amused.  Typical of Jane Austen movies is matchmaking, and sitting around and chatting and chatting about daily mundane happenings.  That’s exactly what this show is depicting.  I found it to be the perfect show to pop on when I was multitasking.  It made doing dishes, editing pictures and so on, a little more enjoyable.

#7 Just Add Magic

Just Add Magic

While this is intended for older kids, I found it a delight to sit and watch with my kiddos.  Entertaining, magical, and unpredictable – it had my kids on edge!  I think I enjoyed seeing that more than the show!

#8 Upstairs Downstairs

Upstairs Downstairs

This one is very similar to Downton Abby, as it follows the lives of those in service and those enjoying the pleasures and challenges of living a life in British Aristocracy.  I watched it for the Decor.  The scenes were stunning!

#9 Bleak House
Bleak House

If you’ve never watched a movie based off of a Charles Dickens story, be warned.  They are very . . . well . . . bleak.  They have a curiously dark and dramatic feel to them, but are very interesting.  I thought the acting in this show was superb!

#10 Highway to Heaven

Highway to Heaven

Ok, don’t laugh that I put this on here.  But truly, Michael Landon has the perfect Angel face!  It is complete with 1980’s glory, but such a classic.  If you find yourself desperate for something totally clean and heart warming, this is YOUR Highway to Heaven 😉  P.S.  My husband would kill for that head of hair! (hehe)

#11 Home Fires

Home Fires

I know.  I said Top 10.  But I couldn’t throw this one out.  Another Masterpiece classic with strong female roles during times of war.  I do favor periodical shows like this.

I hope you’ve found plenty to add to your watchlist!

If you are in the market for more clean feel-good shows, I’ll always stand by my ultimate favorites which I already wrote about here.

I’m telling you that I’m hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighly thrilled to see that this kind of listing exists! I, too, am disappointed by the increasing unfavorable movies to watch. What fools me are the titles which sound good but then when I start watching, I wished I hadn’t started to begin with. Such a waste of time! My goodness! Thank you for these Cami! Keep up the good work!
    Blessings!

Skins may be a bit too racy to watch with the family though; it’s a teen drama, contains drugs, sex etc… perhaps watch without little ones around if that’s to your liking.

Thanks for this list! There are so many disturbing shows out there and we just don’t want to watch them. Trying to find good, clean shows can be a challenge. Thanks for making it easier.

How can I watch Granite Flats? It’s not available even for purchase on amazon (that’s a first) and the byutv website is blank for all episodes. And despite the blog post there, it is NOT on netflix. Any ideas welcome!

Great post. Articles that have meaningful and insightful comments are more enjoyable, at least to me. It’s interesting to read what other people thought and how it relates to them or their clients, as their perspective could possibly help you in the future.

For a modernised twist on Dr.Quinn you might enjoy Hart of Dixie, very similar plot and character development but set in modern times, loved it. Also i’m sure you’ve tried Little House on the Prairie, not sure where you can find these two but both very much ‘feel good’ shows x

A very sincere “thank you” for sharing your favorite light hearted series. My wife and I are in the process of cleansing our hearts and minds after “binge watching” a number of recently popular (but extremely dark and soul crushing) cereals and have enjoyed several of those on your lists. My number one has to be “When Calls the Heart”. Very nice change of pace, for sure.

I just discovered ‘Dr. Thorne” on Amazon.I am hooked! Based on an 18th century novel, and produced by Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame, it is a fun show! I am only about 4 episodes in, but so far, I have found nothing objectionable. It is my new feel good show of choice!

Thanks for the list, I love BBC shows too! And my kids all enjoyed watching “Just Add Magic” over the summer. When they ran out of episodes we gave “Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street” a try. We all enjoyed those and pretty much binge watched the whole series. 🙂
