menu planning in your planner

If you need to feed people inside your household (even if that is just you) menu planning is likely a very important part of your life!

WHY SHOULD YOU MENU PLAN?

Perhaps we all know too well what happens when we don’t menu plan.

  • Last minute trips to the grocery store in a frenzy
  • Frequent impulse food purchases
  • Hangry and unhealthy decisions
  • Eating out too much
  • Blown food budgets
  • Really stressful family dinner time!

I find it VERY helpful to do my menu planning right inside my day planner where I plan all the things in my life. I can get it figured out before the chaos can even think about starting and I feel so much more prepared for the week.

Hopefully the planner you have will give you some of these menu planning options. I have create my own TIDBITS Day Planner and am so happy to be able to sell them to you on my tidbitsplanners.com site.

My planner layout is so customizable that there are so many ways to fit in the details of your life, like menu planning. Let’s walk through the many options!

MENU PLANNING IN YOUR PLANNER IDEA #1: In the list section

I’ve left multiple empty heading list or note sections in my TIDBITS Day Planner for you to customize to your life. I thoughtfully left 7 spaces in one section for you to list out the days of the week with the main dinner menu.

If you don’t depend on these note spaces for anything else, this is a great spot to drop down that weekly menu for quick and easy reference.

MENU PLANNING IN YOUR PLANNER IDEA #2: On the monthly calendar spread

Perhaps you love to menu plan a month at a time? Open up to your planners monthly spread and preserve a little spot to write down each days menu!

I’ve seen some of my planner buddies use different colored highlighters here to highlight their menus, appointments, celebrations, deadlines and so forth. The various colored marks help them keep it all separate on paper and in their heads. Such a great idea!

MENU PLANNING IN YOUR PLANNER IDEA #3: In the time block designated for that meal

If your planner provides an hourly section like the TIDBITS Day Planner does, it is so nice to write down your dinner menu at the designated time for dinner.

After trying all the other methods I am speaking of today, this is by far my preferred way to menu plan. I just use all the other spots for other things, but when 5:00 rolls around and the fam is hungry – there is nothing else to do but make dinner and feed them all!

It helps to know that time is for nothing else and it fits into my day. If dinner has to be later or earlier, it is easy to schedule that in just by writing the menu at the appropriate time.

MENU PLANNING IN YOUR PLANNER IDEA #4: With your daily to-do list

I like to view these color blocks inside the weekly spread of the TIDBITS Day Planner as my daily post-it note or to-do list.

It is also a handy dandy spot to write down what is for dinner! I also think if you need to menu plan for breakfasts and lunches, this would be a nice roomy spot to do that each day.

It is my pride and joy to see that the day planner I have designed can work in so many ways for fellow planners. I made it for you, me and everyone in between to help us manage all our responsibilities no matter how unique our lives may be.

You may still have a few questions I can help with.

IS THERE A SPOT FOR A GROCERY LIST?

There are empty note pages for each month, but I feel like that would fill up before the month is over if you wrote down all your grocery lists there. I like to use my TIDBITS Notebook for writing my grocery lists, or if I need to take it on the go, I use my digital TIDBITS Notebook so it is handy on my phone. However, you can use any old paper to do the job nicely.
