Words cannot express how delighted I am to share the reveal for our MASTER BATHROOM MAKEOVER!!

We worked pretty fast and hard on this project – mostly because it is ZERO fun to share a bathroom with your kids.

(All sources will be named throughout or at the end of the post).

The transformation has been unbelievable, both visually and functionally and I’m so pleased with the cottage bathroom look we achieved.

Before I jump into the juicy details and pictures – lets take a quick glance at the “before” again (for dramatical purposes).

First say, “Blaaaaaa”.

Then say “AHHHHHHHHH”!!!

Yes – that is seriously the same room.

We knew the first things that had to go were the large closet and corner shower.  Without them, we could open up the space and create a light and airy bathroom.  Big kuddos go to the hubs who did all the work himself (while I watched the kids).  He gutted the whole room, re-did plumbing and electrical, planked the walls, added faux ceiling tile and a faux brick wall.  Then he made our beautiful, white-washed and shiplapped pine wood floors.  All that took most of the time and was no easy feat.

Then the fun really began.

I am so pleased to share this space with you as a collaborative effort with Joss and Main.  When we began to add the main elements from their home decor site, it all came together so wonderfully.

Starting with this amazing pedestal soaker tub and faucet.

Real quick – I do want to give a shameless plug here for Joss and Main.  If you are unfamiliar with them, they are a rotating deals site and stock home decor products all the way from larger furniture pieces to decorative accents.  You can find amazing deals at Joss and Main and it helps to keep a close eye on what they stock.  I really enjoy being subscribed to their email list so I can always be up-to-date with the products that go in and out.

Like this mirror . . .

Let’s talk about how amazingly beautiful and French it is!  They have plenty more to choose from in their mirror department!

I was also excited to snag this vessel sink from Joss and Main, which looks lovely on top of our marble counter top.  I bought the marble slab as a discounted remnant piece from a local store.  If you like this sink, I think you’ll like the Joss and Main Bath department.

It’s really all the things I loved from my inspiration images and it was so exciting to tie them altogether in our space.

These lovely French sconces came from the Joss and Main lighting department, as well as the hanging glass pendant light you see in the images.

It was so helpful to equip this space with those nice basic elements, which set the ground work for our DIY’s and my lucky finds at antique and thrift stores.  I also enjoyed a few therapeutic shopping trips to some of my favorites like Target, Homegoods, IKEA, and Bed Bath and Beyond.

Let’s talk about the DIY’s first – which is mostly thanks to my good man.

I snagged a $30.00 door at a thrift store and he attached it to a sliding track system from Amazon.  It used to have a swing door which took up a whole corner of the bathroom and made it useless.

Our challenge was then to figure out how to lock the door from the inside, so mommy could have her quiet time.  He found this hook and loop closure and it really works perfectly.

Now lets talk about the charming blue and white storage cupboard.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

Yep – he made that too.  I wanted the charm of a custom piece vs. built-in storage.  We also had to work with a unique small corner so a custom build was really ideal.

I’ve got a mixed variety of baskets from Michaels and Homegoods inside.  I haven’t actually filled those baskets or moved into my bathroom yet.  I was too anxious to get these pictures first – but I’ll have to do a small bathroom storage update and show you how I plan to fill those baskets with only the essentials that we need and actually use.

I actually plan to do my hair and make-up over at this cupboard so I bought a marble tray from Homegoods to set my hot curling irons down on it to protect the wood.

The blue paint color was completely made up, and I’m sorry if you would like to know the name.  But I think I’ll just call it “a-little-blue-paint-here-and-a-little-white-paint-there”.  You won’t find it at stores 😉

The mirror over here was rescued from my husbands work . . . from the dumpster.  I slapped some Miss Mustard Seed Marzipan paint on it, and now she is a real beauty.

My absolute favorite piece in the room is the marble topped vanity.  I dreamed up the perfect antique vanity and to my sheer joy, I found it on a antique store hunt.  My husband removed the wood top and replaced it with a marble slab.  We bought the marble remnant for a great deal and my husband polished it and drilled the holes for the sink and faucet.

The wire baskets came from Target.

And I heart them.

I have an obsession with handmade soaps and bought some from a local store to stick in my IKEA glass jar.

I think I may need to start a new soap making hobby so I can always have them.

They make the space smell great too.

The next DIY’s I took over.  You might guess they have to do with fabric.

The first DIY I can guarantee you can do – no tutorial needed.

Take an inexpensive flour sack from Walmart and clip it to a curtain rod with rings.

Cottage Bathroom Reveal-64

WALAA!  A cafe curtain to die for!  Let me know if you need that tutorial 😉

Next – I will be doing a quick little tutorial for the shower curtain soon.

Isn’t that light blue flow-y fabric just dreamy!?  And that soft puddle at the bottom makes me want to soak for hours and feel like a princess at the same time.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

Keep your eye out for how I took a pre-made curtain panel and made it work for a shower curtain.  Super easy and no hemming required!

Now let’s talk about this amazing stool.  It was the night before the photo shoot, and my husband asks why I didn’t find a stool like I had talked about.

I said, “I found one dear.  It was charming.  It was also $40.00 and I felt too cheap to buy it.”

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

So what does my good man do?  Heads out to his wood shop at 10:00 at night, scrummages through his stash and whips out a better than $40.00 stool, in an hour flat.  I woke to it the next morning and fell in love with him all over again.  It will always mean so much to me.  He’s worked so hard on this space and still turned this out for me last minute.

Another favorite feature of mine is the towel holder and built-in shelves.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

I picked up these hooks from IKEA and asked him if he had any old wood to attach it to.  He came back from his shop with this old board that had water damage, spider webs . . . and curves and diamonds – and I about died of delight.  He cleaned it up and added the hooks.  I guess his brother was about to throw the board and said it was too damaged.  Luckily, he snagged it.  I happen to really like damaged things.

I filled the shelves with some clearance candles from Homegoods and IKEA.

The blue soap dispenser from IKEA holds my face wash, and a fresh flower makes my face smile.  Perfect way to start the day.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

By the tub we added a floating shelf from Target and I bought some dispensers to hold our shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Pert Plus has never looked so good.

The round doily rugs I found at my first visit to World Market.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

It will not be the last, I’m sure.

Above the toilet we added some shelves, also from target.  These are normally something I would ask my hubs to make – but you know when you have crossed that line of asking too much?

I just bought them instead.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

The shelves are the perfect place to add some decorative and meaningful items.  The Old Spice cup was my husbands grandfathers shaving cup.  I’ve been saving it for our bathroom remodel for a long time.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

Next, I want to show you our toilet paper holder.  It’s a little quarky – but super handy.

Cottage Bathroom makeover by TIDBITS. A dull and dingy bathroom gets a complete gut job and charming makeover.

It was my husbands invention, and we are going with it 😉

The organizer came from Target and he made some sort of toilet paper holder rod contraption.

Nothing like a good read on the toilet, am I right?

That pretty much sums up our bathroom.

This makeover has been wanted for a long time and I was so excited for picture day.

Which you might be able to tell from the cheesy expression above.

I’m going to leave you with a few more sources, but feel free to ask if I missed anything that you would like more information on.

I truly hope that by sharing this space transformation with you, you have been inspired to create a home you love and to look at each wall differently.  This is really a tiny bathroom, but I’m convinced you don’t need a huge space to create a classic design.  We just needed to look at things differently and maximize the function and style.

Don’t be afraid of open storage.

Get rid of anything that does not bring you joy to look at.

Let go of the clutter that consumes your home.

Bring each room back to the basics.

Be innovative and thrifty.

These are the theories that drive each room makeover I do, and they haven’t let me down yet.

I’m off to soak in my new tub, but I’d love to hear your thoughts, questions, comments and opinions.  They always bring me great joy.

Thanks for being here!

  1. Hey, every single thing in your bathroom looks so perfect. I was thinking of doing something similar for my bathroom as well and reading your article, I think I have received some inspiration. Thank you so much for writing this article so simply and the pictures you have added are really good, they inspired me so much. Hoping to see more good content on your blog. Thanks once again!

  2. Such a lovely bathroom! I am wondering where you found your curtain rod for the tub? I have a lovely old clawfoot tub in our old farmhouse bathroom and would love to find a rod like yours in white-I have only seen them in silver. Thanks and great job!!

  3. Our bathroom is a focal territory of our home. It’s where we prepare early in the day, where we prepare our most diminutive for bed around evening time, where we settle hair and plan for life’s defining moments. For me, it’s a place that I need to feel relaxed. It’s a region that I need to be splendid and inviting. Also, shockingly enough, a bathroom redesign is a standout amongst the most well-known home change projects since it’s a simple and cost-effective approach to expand the interest of a home.

  4. Thanks for such an interesting post. I was searching for some of home decor tips to improve my bathroom and I found this post so useful. Great work!

  5. Wow! I can’t believe that’s the same bathroom. It looks amazing. I love how light and bright it looks. I bet you feel a lot more peaceful when you’re in that room. Good job.

  6. Really astounding. Furthermore, when I take a gander at the photos of the individual things, they don’t generally appear to be so incredible, yet in the room, the whole look, it is enchantment. Both of you are a dynamic pair, and center points merits an overwhelming applause! In the event that my rooms resembled this, I don’t know whether I could ever leave, I’d need to arrange everything in.

  7. Truly amazing. And when I look at the pictures of the individual items, they don’t always seem so phenomenal, but in the room, the entire look, it is magic. You two are a dynamic duo, and hubs deserves a standing ovation! If my rooms looked like this, I don’t know if I would ever leave, I’d have to order everything in.

  8. Its pretty awesome and charming. I think you totally have the right idea and great choice about how to do an update. Thank you so much for this share.

  9. I absolutely LOVE the look of your bathroom. It’s so gorgeous. You should be proud of yourself!!

  10. What a fresh and pretty bathroom! I love all of the details you added. thanks for sharing

  11. Any chance you could send me a sketch of before and after for that bathroom with some measurements? Honesty it seems 4X as large after and is so so gorgeous. I got to attend your class at the Pinners Conference and we are in the process of buying a home with a horrendous bathroom with the commode front and center. Would love to know if I have room to set ours up like yours. BTW when you refer to the antique vanity do you mean the open shelving unit that the sink sets on?

  24. Oh Cami, we just finished our bathroom, as well, you and I chatted on Instagram. I feel like we are kindred spirits! Haha, the glass cupboard doors, towel hooks at the end of the tub, our husbands rewiring, replumbing, laying wood floors, etc, we even have a jar of Epsom salts to the left of the sink faucet! I’m sure if we were neighbors our families would have great fun together.

Well done, every inch of your bathroom is excellent, you must feel so satisfied.

  25. Wow, really nice bathroom makeover Cami. Bathrooms are my second favorite place and I love having my me-time in there, so I do whatever it takes to see that it’s a [perfect world. I must say that I love that simple DIY stool you got there.

  26. Yay!!! I am so happy to finally see! It couldn’t have turned out better. I love the apothocary jars! Great work 🙂

  27. You have such an eye for things of beauty! I love your vision to completely take out a closet and corner shower! Most people would not think of anything that drastic but the payoff was incredible! Do you miss the closet at all?

  28. Absolutely Delicious!!!! I am stunningly in love with your bathroom! You are both magnificent!!!! You are lucky to have each other. What talent AND consideration! CONGRATULATIONS!

  29. I’m loving every single thing about your bathroom! Especially love the mirror. I checked all through Joss & Main for it and they don’t have it anymore. They have tons of beautiful mirrors but, I really am in love with yours. Is there any chance they might restock this one, to your knowledge? Again, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful bathroom redone, but yours is the best (that speaks to me)!

  30. Wow! You certainly have a brilliant and talented husband. You better rub his feet every night. Of course he has an equally brilliant and talented wife. All I can say is you make a wonderful pair. I just love everything about the bathroom. I know you are going to thoroughly enjoy it…and you deserve to. What’s next? Haven’t you run out of rooms?

  31. I am convinced once again that I LOVE everything you do! Beautiful bathroom. Now you’ve got me thinking about mine! Hehe. Also, I wouldn’t mind a tutorial for the curtain. Very much a beginner here. 🙂 Thanks cami!

  32. Beautifully done. My fave pieces are the things your hubby made. Love that stool. Would he be interested in sharing plans or a tutorial?
Also, I had to laugh so hard when you said, “nothing like a good read on the toilet, right? Too stinking funny. When my now college aged children were littles 5 minutes alone in the bathroom to read my favorite magazine was bliss. ?

  33. This transformation is simply beautiful!!! I could soak in that tub for hours – it’s all so peaceful and relaxing. I love all of your choices – your vision for this room was spot on, especially with having a sweet little stool.

  34. It is so beautiful!!!! You are so talented and I think we are all in love with your husband!!! I hope you enjoy your new room!
