Dressing a table for your family should not be a complicated task. May these images of my Sunflower Fall Tablescape inspire you to simplify, delight your loved ones, and take advantage of Autumns Sunflower bounty.
Once upon a beautiful Autumn day, one of my favorite friends in the entire blog-o-sphere emails me and asks me if I want to take part in a Fall Tablescape blog hop.
Side note: That’s where we hop from blog to blog to see other like-minded projects. It’s a hoppin’ good time!
Upon reading Alicia’s email, I thought to myself . . .
Self . . . you are pretty lousy at Tablescapes. There are sure to be the most beautiful, elaborate tables hoppin’ around, and you know from experience that your efforts to beautify your table will last a total of 2.5 seconds before the kids tear into it. So . . . self . . . do you really want to do this? Can you really compare to the other hoppers out there?
But then self said to myself . . . you know you adore Alicia, and if she says it’s time to do a Fall Tablescape – you are going to do a Fall Tablescape.
And so the story went. I said yes. I proceeded to see visions of tables set for royalty, and expensive trips to the floral store, and scourging the valley for princess pumpkins, and I was going to bribe my sister to pressure cook up the most heart warming elaborate Autumn time meal to show you all how a Fall Tablescape ought to be . . . and then . . .
Then, none of that happened.
I did do the Tablescape. But I did it on my terms and in my reality, which is far more simple than my daydreams ever turn out to be.
And I’m sorry to say, my blog hoppers, I didn’t do this Tablescape for you.
I decided to do it for the precious little princess’s that grace my home. I decided to do it to delight and bring joy to their faces.
And when I finally realized who I wanted to do this for, my vision changed drastically.
All of a sudden, I saw something far more simple. I saw the plethora of sunflowers blooming in the yard. I saw the fancy cups I’ve held onto, but rarely let them use. I saw making use of what I already had. I saw special treats I would bribe my baker-extraordinaire neighbor to make, and I saw surprised, happy, and delighted faces as they came home and witnessed something mommy has never done before.
Oh yes. This was going to be a Fall Tablescape to remember.
And it wouldn’t wear me out in the slightest.
Moral of my story . . .
It’s all in the “who” and not the “what“.
Second moral of the story . . .
Keep it simple my friends – and spread joy to those you love. This doesn’t require near as much as you think it does.
Third moral of the story . . . you can always count on these other 10 lovely bloggers to make your Tablescape daydreams come true.
Now hop to it 😉

Love the tablescape and the philosophy that inspired it. Very sweet!
Hooray for you!!! I love it!!!!
Thank you! Glad you came by!
I absolutely LOVE it. What is fabulous about it, other than the delight it was for your little gals, is it is so doable for the rest of us who are intimidated by the elaborateness. More elaborate tablescapes are beautiful to look at but is it real for the majority to attain? You showed us how beautiful simple can really be.
Sorry it took a bit for me to respond to your comment, but I have to say, when I read it, it made me tear up! I so agree with you, that the big elaborate ones are just intimidating some times. They are for me too! To think that I made doing something special for your family more attainable brings me so much joy! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me. XO!
You could not have done it any better, those girls were smiling, what more could a person want than to make a memory they will never forget. Simply beautiful.
I’m a little late in my response, but thank you so much for saying those kind words. I do love to make them smile and certainly hope to aspire others to do the same for their loved ones! Thank you!
Thank you Cami!!!!! Your thinking is spot on!!!
This is a great lesson in simplicity. I tend to overthink my projects and then the fear for less than perfection prevents me from starting. This was excellent!
I love yours, simple and will work so much better with my small table!
I love this! Just perfect Cami!
Psssst! Don’t tell the others, after all their tables ARE magazine-worthy-lovely, but I by far prefer yours. That saying-“simple things are best”?… it’s been around for a loooong time. Yours is a table to truly live with. Well done!!!!!
