I love the charm and character of an old wooden cutting board that has been well used. There is something about the weathered appearance of the worn wood that is so beautiful to me.
In my opinion, the little stains, nicks and knife marks found on an old cutting board only add to its appeal. Old wood is magical!
My husband and I have always had a slight obsession with old wood.
He loves to work with wood, building and designing, and I love to use old wood to add vintage charm to our home. It is really a match made in heaven!
Over the years, my husband has collected quite the pile of beautiful aged wood. After eyeing that pile for sometime, we decided that we wanted to be able to do something with it that we would both love.
That is what lead us to idea of making vintage-style cutting boards. After some experimenting, we ended up making 10 vintage cutting boards, each with a different size and unique design. And let me tell you – these are way better than the plastic boards you can get at the store!

If you use old wood, like we did, you can also get that loved and used look of a vintage cutting board.
DIY vintage cutting boards are beautiful, low cost and have the personal touch of being handmade. I love mine so much that I keep them out on display on the kitchen counter.
These vintage style cutting boards would make wonderful Christmas, wedding or housewarming gifts. They have all the charm of old cutting boards that have made it through centuries of use and love. And with a little creativity, you could even make an engraved cutting board for an extra special gift.
Learn How to Make a Cutting Board
Making your own cutting board may sound intimidating, but I promise it’s well within the skill level of an amateur wood worker.
I will walk you through the whole process with instructions for making a vintage cutting board, and also share the 10 printable patterns we used to cut the shapes of these boards you see pictured.
These cutting boards are each so unique and beautiful. And with 10 patterns, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from!
I’ve broken this process up by providing the tutorial for How to Make an Antique Cutting Board on a separate post. That’s where I walk you through choosing your wood – walnut, maple, cherry, oak, pine etc. and the pros and cons of each.
It’s also where I discuss the step-by-step process for making your beautiful board, along with sealing and special care instructions.
I won’t go into full details here, but just know that if you’ve got a scroll or jigsaw, a random orbital sander and perhaps a router, you’re all set to make these gorgeous vintage cutting boards.

I have to let you in on my favorite shapes, which are the 5 you see below.
All credit for these fun cutting board designs must really go to my husband. Â He sketched them out on paper for me, using only his imagination for some and inspiration online for others.
They are all absolutely charming. Â You’ll be able to print them on standard US 8.5 x 11 paper. Â These patterns will make fairly medium size handheld boards. Â You could always consider printing them smaller with your printer settings, or having them enlarged at a copy shop.
Or simply use the shapes as a guide to freehand sketch your own pattern to the size of board you want.
I just ask that you remember that these are provided to you free and are for personal use ONLY.

Thank you for your help and more importantly sharing.
IO love these. But I can’t get them to open so I can print them. I ended up screenshotting, pasting in paint and cropping and resizing. They came out almost right size, I’ll just cut the pattern out a little larger.
This is a wonderful post. Thanks for sharing.
I like posts that fill in your knowledge gaps. This one is of the sort.
Wow! Thanks for posting these printable shapes – its nice to have a crowd to choose from.. I chose #2. As you can see by the timestamp, time grows short and Christmas is upon us. Backstory: A few years ago, on a trip down south I picked up a few board feet of 100 year old Cherry wood and have been holding (hoarding) on to it till the right purpose revealed itself. What better purpose could there be than a cutting board for my daughter at Christmas time. It will go nicely with an old dough bowl & paddle given a few Christmas’s ago. Thanks again…
