Living Room Nativity Display

One of the things I wanted to focus on this year was giving space to meaningful decorations.

We have a special Nativity set that is one of our most precious Christmas decorations. This Nativity was inherited from my grandmother. I knew it needed to be the focal point of this console table display.

The artwork hanging above the nativity depicts Santa holding a figurine of the baby Jesus. This piece of art is also meaningful to us.

My mother gave us this beautiful picture. It’s a nod to Mr. Tidbits who sometimes plays Santa Clause – full red suit and everything! The image also reminds us to keep our focus on the true meaning of Christmas, which Mr. Tidbits does so wonderfully.

Simple greenery and candles surround the nativity for a peaceful scene.

Make sure that the meaningful items you own have a place this holiday season. It’s okay if something doesn’t quite match or fit into your color palette. Your memories are precious and the things you display become part of the magic of the season.

Entry Way Christmas Decorations

Next, let’s move over to the front door. I kept this area really simple. I just took a basket and filled it with some pinecones that we gathered years ago. A burgundy colored accent ribbon tied to the top of the chair adds a touch of holiday cheer to this simple display.

This idea is something you can probably do for free if you have pine trees in your area. I have used and loved these simple pine cones for years.

Evergreen clippings, dried cranberries and dried orange slices are other natural holiday decor ideas that I love to use at Christmas time, which I have done a lot in past tours.

Next to the door I used a wreath with ribbon and bells on our coat hanger to add a bit of charm. Even the plaid jacket, in it’s deep red color, adds to the overall feel of Christmas in this room.

Christmas decor can be simple every day items, like pine cones, scarves, or colored jackets. Don’t feel like you need to buy a bunch of decor to have a beautiful Christmas display.

Christmas Living Room Tabletop Decorations

On the living room tabletops I decorated with greenery and accessories that I already had. The side table below has a faux cedar wreath and a burgundy vase.

Over on the coffee table I’ve repurposed our antique bird cage with berry sprigs, greenery, and “two turtle doves”, all of which came from other decor.

Repurposing is a great way to expand your Christmas living room decorations. I like to mix and match non-Christmas items to create something new.

Classic Christmas Mantel and Piano

I recently shared my tips for how to hang garland on a mantel. Here is the finished fireplace mantel all decked out.

Layers of garland are hung with a simple string of fairy lights for a bit of sparkle.

Below you’ll see a close up of the gorgeous metal stars that a sweet reader sent to me years ago. We have family pictures in them. Aren’t they beautiful?

The top of the mantel holds candlesticks, more pine cones, and couple pieces of Christmas decor.

Let’s not forget the artwork. It’s scene of a two girls tending their flock of sheep, which is symbolic to me as a Christian.

Artwork is a wonderful way to change decor without needing to add new items to a space. Just change your print and you have a whole new feeling!

The art you see above is actually digital art displayed on our frame TV. If you have a one of these TV’s, you can use my tutorial for how to resize and find free art for the frame TV to add beautiful backdrops to your screen.

If you use traditional prints in your decor, see my large wall art ideas post where I discuss how to decorate with large wall art without breaking the bank.

Over on the piano is an art piece that I really love. It’s a drawing of Christ. This piece stays out all year, but it’s especially fitting at Christmas time.

I have another small Nativity scene and some more greenery to finish out the piano decorations.

Festive Christmas Tree

One of my family’s favorite traditions is going up in the mountains to find and cut down a real Christmas tree. This year’s tree has been one of my favorites. I decorated it with homemade and vintage inspired ornaments in a creamy white and burgundy color scheme.

The paper angel ornaments were a fun holiday project from last year. I love to make my own Christmas ornaments. If you want a fun family activity, you could also try making yarn wrapped star ornaments, air dry clay ornaments, or DIY names of Christ ornaments.

I used a simple blanket to wrap around the base of our tree – no tree skirt needed! I love wrapping the base of the tree this way. It always looks so cozy and old fashioned. Any sheet or throw blanket that you like will work as a tree skirt.

A darling wooden toy train circles the base of the tree. My son loves this train so we make sure to use it every year.

Cozy Living Room Touches

Lastly, what is a Christmas living room without some extra cozy touches? In my living room, I added some colored throw pillows and throw blankets to the sofa. They add lots of texture and warmth to this living room space.

Fabric colors and prints are an easy way to add to your decor. I don’t worry about matching. Coordinating different pieces looks natural and adds cozy Christmas vibes.

Now, it’s finally time to snuggle up and relax in our decorated living room. I can’t wait!

  1. Hi Cami, I always enjoy you and your home. I love that you have your nativity and the art work above , that is so fitting. Also one of my favorite artist. My favorite Christmas share I believe so far has to be your Little Woman family video you did of going and getting your live tree and bringing it home. Those moments were so beautiful I felt. So if anyone is reading this and hasn’t seen it yet, you must go back and watch. Wishing you and your family a beautiful Jesus filled Christmas!
